I see used Star Trek books all the time in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. Chains like Half-Price Books usually have several, and are usually clearing them out at about fifty cents a piece.

Uncle Hugo's, the oldest independent sci-fi bookstore in America, also has a large section if I remember. They do mail orders. Website: http://www.unclehugo.com/prod/

Maybe Minneapolis has more fans of Star Trek than other areas of North America, Australia?

Seems right to me. The Star Trek DVDs we got at the Wal-Mart where I work have been going pretty fast. Within 2 weeks we actually ran out of Animated Series DVDs, TOS Remastered Season 1, and Fan Collective: Borg. I don't know how many we had, and I haven't seen any come past me (I'm a cashier) so I have no idea how many we actually sold. They've still gone alot quicker than I expected when I first saw them though.

I was in JB Hi-Fi today and they had a huge display with seasons of ENT, DS9, VOY, and TNG for $40, and TOS for $60.

I went into my local Chapters yesterday and found that the Trek section was at an all-time high of 4 shelves. I did my best to reduce their stock by buying 3 books.

As I mentioned in the SNW 10 thread, I managed to get more copies of that anthology into local Chapters/Coles/Indigo bookstores by writing to them directly and mentioning the Winnipeg connection. I also wrote to other local book retailers, but they don't have a convenient computer system to search, so I'll have to visit them individually...

Sometimes, you've just got to work it yourself.

There are plenty of copies of the novelisation and Open Secrets around, but I still haven't seen Troublesome Minds on the shelves.

Since people have mentioned DVD sets, I've also noticed those being displayed more prominently at both HMV and Future Shop...with some of the season sets now down to $40 CDN, I might pick a few more of those up, too.

My little contribution to the "where are all our Trek books, you khest'n bookstores" argument: both the large bookstores in Cambridge are well stocked, with much variety, but most bookshops I know have little, particularly compared to Star Wars. This irritates me as I've looked through some Wars books and my impression is that they are far inferior to the modern line of Trek books. Being the tiresome obsessive that I am, I go out of my way to "tidy" shelves of Trek books, arranging them by series or rescuing books that have fallen into the clutches of the enemy and have been carelessly stacked admist the Star Wars offerings.

I only managed to get to a couple of bookstores in England, but they had a decent selection of trek Lit. Waterstone's had a big endcap thingy promoting Trek Lit, with a good selection...

I have some good news; passed through the two local Chapters/Indigo bookstores today, and their Trek sections have notably increased, one to four shelves, the other five. (And, since it seems a popular metric, both now outnumbered the Star Wars shelves) They also had all the latest titles up to Troublesome Minds, which is worth noting because the stores around here have been pretty consistently late until now. For these stores, at least, it seems that the 'success' of that film is indeed having a belated knock-on effect on their Trek orders.

I've noticed several shops on my regular rounds which have noticeably decreased the Star Wars shelves of late, consolidating that stock to make room for the Star Trek movie novelization, plus multiple copies of recent ST titles.

You want sad? The B&N near my office not only waited two or three weeks to get the movie novelization, but I was just over there today and Trek is down to only half a shelf. Half a shelf.

Mind you, this B&N seems to be condensing its SF&F section in general, but that's just obscene.

Wow, I hope they haven't started reversing the recent trend already. I read recently that Trek Sales (all merchandise) were up almost 200 - 300% in some locations.

I would have figured summer as a prime time for bookstores. They're probably still reacting to the downturn in the economy.
