One for the Road

We all have our favorite and not so favorite TREK movies (a recent listing movies is in another thread)

Here is a challenge..find at least one thing you liked about each movie. NOTHING negative. Even you Nemesis haters (like me) and you FINAL FRONTIER blasters (everyone else)...there has to be something, perhaps even a scene/line of dialog, even so small, that you liked about each movie...

Here is my list...One for the road...

TMP...Opening battle with Klingons.

KHAN...K/S scene "I woud not presume to debate you" "That is wise"

SEARCH FOR SPOCK..."you KLINGON BASTARD!"

Voyage Home..."I like italian, and so do you" (entire scene in the pick-up truck is one of TREK's classic scenes IMO)

Final Frontier..."I need my pain!"

TUC...K/S scene towards the end. "Reality is somewhere between" Kirk says to spock

Genrations...Soran's shpeal about why he is doing what he is doing..."Then, the Borg came. And if there's one constant in the universe, it's death.". The entire speech there is, I think, TREK's best ever. So quotable..and Mcdowell delivers it so well!!

FC...."the line MUST be drawn here"..great scene.

Insurrection (i really had to think about this one)...I liked the scene where the Admiral gets his face stretched

Nemesis (again..had to really did deep here) I liked the Romulan ship that Shinzon had. Was pretty cool looking...

STAR TREK. "I'm spock"...pause...."Bullshit."

Thats my one for the road...

Just one from each, off the top of my head
TMP - seeing the ship in dock
TWOK - seeing Kirk deal with Spock and McCoy bitching at each other
TSFS - Kirk listening to Morrow while making up his mind
TVH - yes/no/yes/no ... yes
TFF - campfire
TUC - chimes at midnight
GEN E-B sequence
FC - Phoenix liftoff
INS - Picard/Dougherty scene
NEM - briefing room prior to battle
09 - not feeling compelled to see it

TMP: Shots that opened up the ship: cargo bay, engine room, Rec Deck
TWOK: The foreground miniature used to extend the academy corridor set
TSFS: The down shot of the Enterprise heading towards the spacedock. I like seeing the ship small against immensity (albeit I hate the spacedock)
TVH: The whales!
TFF: "What're you standing around for? Don't you know a jailbreak when you see one!"
TUC: BOOM!!! Great opening.
GEN: Anything before the 24th century
FC: The Borg Cube explosion
INS: (I can't think of a thing I liked...I only saw it once)
NEM: Romulan Senate...albeit the set was too small.
ST: The warp drive effect. Fwoooooooooooosh

This isn't so hard.

TMP - the redesigned Enterprise
TWOK - Enterprise v. Reliant
TSFS - "My God, Bones. What have I done?"
"What you had to do. What you always do. Turn death into a fighting chance to live."
TVH - "Admiral. We have found the nuclear wessel. And Admiral...it is the Enterprise."
TFF - "I thought you said men like us don't have families."
"I was wrong."
TUC - This is going to sound strange...but I like the weariness. I like that they're tired, that they are disillusioned, and then they find their way.
GEN - The look on Picard's face when Soran says "They say time is the fire in which we burn."
FC - I like the scene where Picard is prepared to destroy the Enterprise and talks about how they barely knew her.
INS - Okay, this is tough. I f'in hate this movie. But...in the spirit of the thread, let's say the Enterprise's flight to blow the whistle on the bad guys.
NEM - This is easy. The pre-battle monologue from Picard where he says something to the effect of like a thousand other commanders on a thousand other battlefields, I await the dawn.
Star Trek - first appearance (reappearance, it was done so well) of McCoy. Leonard McCoy.

This thread is a wonderful idea. Good to combat negativity once in a while and remind ourselves that we like Star Trek, even if you're only the biggest fan if you hate it more than anyone else

TMP: The scene where McCoy pulls Kirk aside and tells him more or less that he's out of line for acting like he is (just after the wormhole bit IIRC).
TWOK: I loved the scene where McCoy gives Kirk the glasses
TSFS: "The needs of the one outweighed the needs of the many."
TVH: The scene where Spock goes swimming with the whales without giving Kirk a heads-up and then seeing Kirk's reaction was priceless.
TFF: Jet boots. TFF gave us jet boots. I shouldn't have to explain.
TUC: "What IS it with you, anyway?"
"Still think we're finished?"
"More than ever." :guffaw:
GEN: The prologue Enterprise-B sequence was a fun way to revisit TOS in a TNG movie
FC: Too many to count, but the conference lounge scene with Picard and Lily springs to mind
INS: Kel Perim was nice to look at. And the briar patch battle was cool
NEM: I loved the wedding reception bit with Picard
XI: *after Nero has said his piece about how he'd rather watch Romulus burn a million times than accept Kirk's help or somesuch*: "You got it!"

All of yours are real good. The one that brought a smile to my face was the "Spock swimming with the whales" scene. Shatner/Nimoy really play this well, especially when Kirk sees Spock in the water...and all the way up through the scene with Gillian when she confronts spock...

Classic Star Trek indeed!!!

TMP: Spock's revelation that pure logic alone is not enough to finding meaning in life

TWOK
: "I have been, and always shall be, your friend." (Though, for humor and irony sake, go with Kirk greeting Spock at the beginning of the film with, "Aren't you dead?")

TSFS
: Kirk & McCoy: "My God, Bones, what have I done?" "What you always do; turn death into a fighting chance to live."

TVH
: McCoy, "He isn't exactly working on all thrusters."

TFF
: Kirk: "What does God want with a starship?"

TUC
: Spock: "There's an old Vulcan proverb: Only Nixon could go to China."

GEN
: "Time is a ... companion who ... reminds us to cherish the moments of our lives because they will never come again."

FC
: Riker to Cochran: "Don't try to be a great man. Just be a man, and let history make its own judgment"

INS
: Loved the whole "Universe in a moment of time" meme

NEM
: The concept of facing one's evil self is always interesting

XI
: "You are fully capable of deciding your own destiny. The question you face is: Which path will you choose. This is something only you can decide."

Very deep quotes there from the various ones who went with..all good. The last one, from XI? The guy who played nuSAREK doesn't get much mention in these parts. But I thought he actually did a pretty good job; excellent casting choice again.

I'm mostly just going to go with a quote or two that I loved from each.

"Star Trek: The Motion Picture"
-
Probe girl: "Kirk unit! Kirk unit!"

"Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan"
-
The way Khan whispers "buried alive!" twice.

"Star Trek III: The Search for Spock"
-
Sulu: "Don't call me 'Tiny'."

"Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home" -

Spock: "Gracie's pregnant."

"Star Trek V: The Final Frontier" -
I honestly can't remember anything about this movie. I've never seen the whole thing and only saw some of it once.

"Star Trek IV: The Undiscovered Country" -

I loved the moment right before Chang bites the big one: "To be or not to be!" and Kirk's closing monologue made me teary with happiness the first time I heard it.

"Star Trek: Generations" -
Kirk: "I was out saving the galaxy when your grandfather was in diapers"

"Star Trek: First Contact" -

Cochrane: "Hot damn...you're heroic!"

"Star Trek: Insurrection" -

Geordi: "I've never seen a sunrise. Not the way you see it." Not such a great line, but the look on his face made it a nice little scene with Geordi and Picard.

"Star Trek: Nemesis" -

Shinzon: "May I touch your hair?" Creepy weirdo.

TMP: The Spock plot- This simple feeling.

TWOK: McCoy, smiling, lying on the floor after the Kobayashi Maru- Kirk's "Physician, heal thyself." :)

TSFS: "You're suffering from a Vulcan mind meld, Doctor." "That green-blooded son of a bitch! It's his revenge for all those arguments he lost!"

TVH: Kirk's expressions at seeing Spock in the whale tank. Shatner is genius there. Sarek at Starfleet HQ.

TFF: The Kirk/Spock/McCoy scenes- felt like TOS Star Trek.

TUC: McCoy rolling his eyes over Jim and the shapeshifter-as-pretty-woman. "What is it with you anyway?"

GEN: Been so long since I've seen it I can't pick out anything in particular (good or bad).

FC: Been a long time on this one too- I remember getting a laugh out of the drinking with Cochrane scene.

INS: Honestly can't remember this one either- haven't seen it since it came out.

NEM: I liked that the Romulans were in this one- but that is about all I can recall about this movie.

XI: Introduction of McCoy "Space is death and disease..."

I forgot to make a pick for the new one, but McCoy's intro is probably my favourite scene too. I was pleasantly surprised by how spot-on his dialogue and body language was immediately. None of the characters ever felt like such a perfect interpretation of a younger version of the original as much as McCoy did as played by Karl Urban in that scene. I do think the rest of the cast did a great job too, though. I think the next most perfect channeling of one's older self was Pine's Captain Kirk saying "Bones!" right at the end. Almost sounded as if Shatner dubbed the voice right there.

TMP: "Is this all that I am? Is there nothing more" - Spock
TWOK: "He tasks me...he tasks me and I shall have him!" - Khan
TSFS: "Yes, exhilarating isn't it?" - Kruge
TVH: "Would you mind stopping that damned noise!" - Kirk
TFF: "I don't want my pain taken away, I need my pain!" - Kirk
TUC: "I'd give real money if he'd shut up!" - McCoy
GEN: "Normal is what everyone else is and you are not" - Soran
FC: "See ya around Ahab..." - Lily
INS: "Definitely feeling aggressive tendencies!" - Worf
NEM: "Don't ever touch me again" - Shinzon
ST: "I'm givin' her all she's got Cap'n" - Scotty

TMP: the Enterprise spacedock sequencese
TWOK: nearly everything, but I'll go with Spock's death and funeral
TSFS: the destruction of the Enterprise
TVH: Spock's colorful metaphors
TFF: the opening credit sequence against the mountains of Yosemite (nice music, too)
TUC: the dogfight between the Enterprise, Excelsior and Bird-of-Prey
GEN: the much-enhanced Ent-D sets, which looked far better than they did on the series
FC: the creepy, "Alien"-esque treatment of the Borg
INS: Picard and Anij
NEM: The first glimpse of the Scimitar as it de-cloaks; Shinzon's introduction
ST'09: Nearly everything, but I'll go with the opening Kelvin sequence

TMP: "Is this all that I am? Is there nothing more" - Spock
TWOK: "He tasks me...he tasks me and I shall have him!" - Khan
TSFS: "Yes, exhilarating isn't it?" - Kruge
TVH: "Would you mind stopping that damned noise!" - Kirk
TFF: "I don't want my pain taken away, I need my pain!" - Kirk
TUC: "I'd give real money if he'd shut up!" - McCoy
