One and Done: Improve the movie with one suggestion

Gaila, have her wear GREEN lip stick.

Brief lines:
------------------------------
Spock: "While I'm down on the surface, beam up as many people from Vulcan as you can, use all transporter rooms, pack the corridors."
-----------------------------
KIRK: (Doesn't say) "You got it. Arm phasers, fire everything we got."
-----------------------------
Spock: "Have Lt. Kirk ejected from the ship."
Guard: "In a escape pod sir?"
Spock: **cough** "Yes. Of course. In a escape pod."
-----------------------------

:techman:

Original ship design. Would have stuck with it. And most of the interior, with the muted colors shown in "The Cage", rather than the bright primary colors later on.

Oh, and no Captain right out of the Academy.

1. Give Nero a motivation that tells us something about him as a Romulan rather than just a generic revenge motivation that could have been applied to anyone. This may be too complicated to qualify as "one" suggestion. For starters, it requires we understand what the Romulans are all about, and we don't even know that for sure. If so...

2. Just let the kid that lil Kirk drove past be George Kirk. Why be coy?

3. Ditch the Star Wars rodent.

4. Use T'Girl's dialogue changes.

They should have had more fun cameos to attract folks in from other movie fan bases - you know, like they had Tyler Perry as the commandant of the Academy. So they should have had Sasha Baron Cohen as Robert April.

Withers, I don't think the villain needed more gravitas as much as he needed more back story. It was a little light on what motivated him.

For me, ditch the 'supernova threatened the galaxy' line, because that was the thing that threw me out of the story first time through.

Overall and accepting a group of changes I couldn't improve on Pauln6's list. *nods*

I really do wonder how much the Writer's Strike ultimately interfered with the film, and I sometimes think people forget that it occurred.

I would've left in two scenes that were cut.

One, the scene with little Jimmy Kirk, George not Johnny, and the stepfather. The scene gives a bit more dimension to the younger Jim Kirk and shows us the reason for his act of rebellion. It also makes him less of a rebel-without-a-clue.

Two, the bit between Sarek and Amanda right after young Spock's schoolyard brawl. The dialogue and the manner in which the characters are framed in the shot--Sarek and Amanda on opposite sides with Spock centered on the horizon line--externalize Spock's inner conflict.

I didn't expect this thread to last so long without devolving into a 'battle of who can be wittier.' In fairness it did attract moderator attention so I'm three for three.

I'll take any improvement on the villain in this movie. If you're going to make revenge the motive for your movie villain, said villain damn well better look and kick ass like Uma Thurman (The Bride/Beatrix Kiddo from Kill Bill. Watching someone with what seems to be a learning disability attempt to enact revenge is akin to watching a baby getting angry at their bottle for being empty.

For me, ditch the 'supernova threatened the galaxy' line, because that was the thing that threw me out of the story first time through.

I accept the supernova partly because it reminds me of the game Starflight. Just replace the Crystal Planet with the Hobus Star, and replace the Black Egg with the Black Hole created by the Red Matter. It makes me wonder if Abrams or the writers ever played that game.

I loved everything about the movie, but my one and only wish for it would be this:

End the movie with Pike in command and Kirk as first officer; end it with a scene of Pike saying to Kirk "You'll make a fine captain some day, Mister Kirk."

I'd have banned all the whiny little people who are still crying about the brewery, the look of the ship, the supernova and everything else from ever getting to see it. Didn't like it? Fine. Still going on about how "wrong" it all was 10 months later as if your life depended on it? Begone!

Qft.

I loved the film. The only change I would make would be replacing the Romulans with ginger kids. Nero could be a daywalker, perhaps. Let's not be pedantic.

Zoe Saldana: Full Frontal Nudity.

This is a terrific suggestion.
My own is similar, except it also involves a nude Rachel Nichols as Gaila, and a fifth of Romulan ale.

Put an Andorian somewhere. Anywhere. Bridge officer on the Kelvin, one of the Admirals in Kirk's tribunal, a random crewmember walking past for only a second.

The three best suggestions of the thread. I hope that the next one has an Andorian, a Tellarite and Denobulan somewhere in the film.
