Spoilers Once Upon a Time Season 7

I have to say I'm quite intrigued by the concept of different versions of characters and stories seen before being explored this season. I wonder if, since Walt Disney was one of the Authors, this season will not only explain variations between different versions of the same story, but also explain how different Disney versions, like Sleeping Beauty and Maleficent, are, or, at least, could be connected.

I remember Dania Ramirez from the 2nd season of HEROES. I don't remember if it was her acting or the way her character was written that I didn't like.

According to the Once Upon a Time wiki, Princess Tiana and new versions of Lady Tremaine, Drusilla, and Alice will appear this season 7.

This is the first I've heard about alternate versions of familiar characters, but I missed the last few episodes of the last season, was this set up there somewhere? Or is this a totally new concept being introduced this season?
I have to admit, I was confused when I saw how many people were leaving, but the time jump and soft reboot does have me intrigued.

It's both a new and an old concept. Old in that there have been three versions of Ursula, but new that it will be set up in the first episode of season 7. The basic idea is there are different variations of the same story in different regions and different countries and Henry years after the main events of the final episode of season 6 which finished the book he's had from the beginning decides to leave Storybrooke and while exploring these other realms create his own story and make a life for himself.

I don't get why they have to do rehashed ideas of old tales when there are so many stories that can be told, e.g, from the Brothers Grimm (many of which sparked Disney films), folktales from around the world, Greco-Roman, Egyptian, Mesopotamian, Celtic, Norse, Eastern, or Mesoamerican mythology.

Since they started doing closer adaptations of the Disney animated versions of the characters as the show went on, I wouldn't be surprised if the new versions of some of the earlier, more different ones were closer to them.

I see no reason that they can't to a point do both and who knows perhaps they will touch on other story sources and mythologies this season.

I'd love to see OUaT have another go at Rapunzel and this time be closer to the version in Tangled.

The show isn't "rehashing stories"; they're following up on a concept they first introduced, visually, in Season 5, when Henry discovered that his storybook was just one of many depicting different versions of many of the fairy tale stories and characters we've come to know.

So different versions are not rehashed ideas? I think it's absurd that having a Mexican Cinderella isn't a repeat of the story of Cinderella that's been done this previous season. What's next, Chinese Cinderella? A lesbian Cinderella? A Cinderella who has Asperger's?

Yeah, it is rehashing, at least, to a point. However, it is also touching on and expanding earlier parts of the OUaT mythology, such as the Author and the story realms. I would also point out Tiana and thus The Princess and the Frog are entering the OUaT mythos which could mean Houdou or Voodoo elements. I would also say other new elements could enter the mythos this season as well that haven't been announced.

I have a feeling they'll make the new versions of the characters different enough from the first ones to not feel too much like a rehash. I hadn't heard about Princess and the Frog, that could be fun. It doubt it would happen since they've always gone for new actors, but I would love to see them bring Keith David back as Facilier.

I agree the new versions will almost certainly be different from the Storybrooke Enchanted Forest versions. If Dr. Facilier is in the new season, Keith David would do an awesome job playing him in live action.

I understand. The biblical tale of Noah's ark was derived from Gilgamesh, and there have been numerous tales of a great flood in ancient times. My point is, all it presents is a feeling of "been there, done that." Why not explore other characters from Grimm's fairy tales, e.g., The Brave Little Tailor, Jorinda and Joringel, et al? And since the past season went beyond the realm of the Enchanted Forest, why not try other ideas? I'd be interested in different interpretations or incarnations of Tarzan, Dracula, Sherlock Holmes, Elizabeth Bennet, or Shakespeare characters like Titania and Oberon, Prospero, Miranda, Caliban, and the list goes on ...

Fairy tales, as we think of them in a cultural context, are a form of mythology, and the characters who inhabit them change with the telling just as the heroes of myth do, which is why I stand by my earlier comment that brining in different versions of "classic" fairy tales and fairy tale characters isn't "rehashing stories".

I'm really looking forward to Friday and the first episode of the season. I'm hopeful about the show's new direction.
