Spoilers Once Upon a Time season 6

Another great episode. So my far out theory was wrong unsurprisingly. Obviously, I'm no clairvoyant. However, I will make one prediction that I'm convinced will happen: Rumple will turn on the Black Fairy and save the day assuming he's truly on her side (which I'm not convinced of at this point). If that's the case, he won't turn but just do what he already had planned.

We learned a great deal tonight about the Black Fairy. Am I the only one who thought Rumple's birth was analogous to the biblical tale of Christ's birth? "Born on a winter's night to become the Savior." Instead of the Wise Men, we got Blue Fairy and fairy godmother Tiger Lily coming to visit the family. ;) It was quite ironic that Fiona's desire to save her baby Rumple from the prophecy turned her into the very darkness that she wanted to protected him from.

I suspected Rumple didn't go through with his intent to vanquish his evil mother. That would've been too easy (and having had it happen offscreen was questionable). He did tell Belle and Gideon that no matter what he does, it will be for the sake of protecting his family. So if Rumple is now working with Black Fairy, then all the despicable things she has done will have meant nothing to him. On the other hand, this could all be a ruse. Nothing has changed at this point; she's still a threat to everyone in Storybrooke.

I'm not quite clear on how Rumple can rationalize what his mother did to Gideon (unless this was all a ruse to get Gideon's heart back).

Obviously Rumple's intentions are not 100 percent clear. He could be playing the long game. It was pretty clear he did not kill his mother because let's face it--a battle like that would not take place off camera.

I thought this was one of the better episodes this season overall, though if I want to make a very stupid nitpick, why would Zelena learn to drive a STICK shift? Who does that in the 21st century? I realize there are lots of stick shift cars out there, but if teaching someone how to drive so they can evacuate in a hurry is the goal, get that woman in an automatic, which is what the vast majority of cars are anyway.

Plus, if everything she did was for her family, then how does she rationalize Balefire's ultimate fate. Balefire was family.

Of course, technically, so is the mother of his son.

I wonder if grandma plans on killing him too?

If so, will that snap Gold out of his mother trance?

I also found it bizarre that they couldn't find an automatic for Zelena. She has to learn in a hurry, and the whole point is to keep Robyn and Henry safe.

To be honest, I didn't realise that manual cars were as rare as that in the US though after looking around, I guess it would make more sense for it to be an auto in the show. Over in Europe, I think manual is still more common.

At last count, just 3.9 percent of cars sold in U.S. were built with manual transmissions, but in the rest of the world, manual transmissions are still overwhelmingly the top choice. In Europe and Japan, for example, more than 80 percent of cars sold have manual transmissions.

Still, automatic vehicles are becoming more and more ubiquitous in the U.S. Just 30 years ago, 71 percent of vehicles on American roads had automatic transmissions, and today it’s more than 96 percent. Further, Edmunds.com reported that 67 percent of car models manufactured for the 2013 model year were only available with automatic transmissions.

https://www.thezebra.com/insurance-news/2805/manual-vs-automatic/

The article posited a number of different reasons for why Americans buy automatic:

The answer seems to be a combination of factors: the sheer volume of traffic in the U.S. makes manuals less practical (the stop-and-go of heavy traffic is more laborious when shifting is involved), and automatic cars are seen as (and marketed as) a luxury in the U.S., which means buyers are more attracted to them. But perhaps the biggest factor is the cost of gasoline (or petrol, if you will). Because of government subsidies, the price of gasoline is substantially lower in the U.S. than it is abroad, making small changes in fuel efficiency between transmission types really stand out—a gallon of gas in Europe can cost ten dollars or more, depending on the market.

They did get Gideon's heart back (I don't remember how, but Rumple pushed it back into his chest towards the end).

Yes, I saw that... The question is whether or not Gold held off on a confrontation so that his mother would give up Gideon's heart (which she did).

My guess is getting Gideon's heart back was only part of it. I don't think he's really on her side, but he made similar decisions to her in the past and therefore has an understanding of how she thinks no one else does. I'm pretty certain he has a plan to stop her or perhaps unlike with his father try to convince her to do the right thing and redeem herself by sacrificing herself at the end of the final battle. I'm pretty certain Rumple will at the least redeem himself at the end (possibly dying again permanently this time).

This was the first episode of OUaT that I've watched since the Season 5 fina!e, and it reminded me of everything that was great about the show and that I think got lost in Season 5 when the show "got out ahead of its skis" and squandered a !ot of potential.

In terms of incorporating and utilizing the conceptual thematics of doing a musical, I think the show did the best job since Buffy the Vampire Slayer gave us their musical episode, which is fitting since the songs used were very reminiscent of OMwF's songs, both in lyrical composition and melody.

I had issues with the Killian/Emma pairing for quite the longest time, but they eventually grew on me and I have to admit that their wedding was pretty sweet, in a myriad of different ways.

Jamie Murray is very different as the Black Fairy than I imagined, since the only familiarity I have with her is as Stahma Tarr on Defiance, but you can definitely see where Rumple got a lot of his more problematic personality traits from even though she didn't raise him.

I do wonder what this new Dark Curse is meant to do and how it's going to bring an end to this particular phase of the story on the off-chance that we don't get a seventh season, but I am looking forward to seeing those questions answered next week.

La la la la la la! Oh sorry, I got a alittle carried away there ... :D

That was a beautiful episode with great vocal performances. Like the Flash/Supergirl musical crossover, I was left to wonder whether the actors actually did their own singing, which I'm sure they did. Special kudos to Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas for their fantastic voices.

The music in Emma's heart allowed her to triumph over the Black Fairy as she came to realize she was not really alone. I wonder if Emma and the others could have done more to stop the dark curse from being unleashed. The episode itself would have been a good series finale as it talked about happy endings and new beginnings.

We'll see what happens in the finale and with regards to a S7 renewal and then I'll decide if I'm tuning in or not, but it does strike me that the more prudent course of action might be to just use the S6 finale to launch a brand-new spinoff centered around whoever these two new characters who'll be showing up in the finale are and maybe Lana and Robert should they decide to return rather than continuing on with the main series.

I hate musical episodes. I hated the one for "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". I hated the one for "The Flash". And I hated this one. I hope this does not become a trend.

Morrison had just finished filming two movies and is shooting a third one. I suspect she believes she can finally kick start a movie career.
