Spoilers On Seven and sexuality

Speaking of badassery... I rewatched Stardust City Rag and was struck by two things about Seven. One, her blasé act towards Picard (about saving the galaxy and such) comes across as just that, an act (of self-protection). Two, at the end of that nice bit of dialog about regaining their humanity with him, she has tears in her eyes. So, definitely a lot of internal conflict going on .

As far as the "bad-ass"ness of La Sirena's crew, if you're Picard and you're going it alone with dangerous odds stacked against you, you want to have a crew of badasses who have nothing else to lose and live to do this stuff.
Meh. The only person who is halfway a badass is Seven herself, and only really because Trek doesn't usually do morally-gray heroes of that particular stripe.

I don't think that Earth is "still" what you think it is.

It's the administrative hub for the Federation and Starfleet.

There is no room for a thriving human population of billions, who are either in some kind of luxury class where they paint and dance all day, or do any work other than administration for the Federation/Starfleet.

22nd century Earth had shitty backward laughable technology.

What they gave the Federation in the beginning was realestate. A Federation Homeworld. That's how they got a seat at the table with the elder races. It's really the only thing they had to offer.

Dunno about that.Of all the primary human cast members Burnham and Chakotay are the only ‘colonial’ humans I can think of.
Edit:Crusher...how could I forget the girl from the Tartan Warehouse?!

And with that small statement you just struck at the heart of the matter. There's no possible way the Seven of the 2370s could be the same one circa 2399, because she--even more so than most humans--is heavily influenced by environment, mainly because she spent her formative years as a part of the Collective.

She's lost two sons (One and Icheb).

Her grief must be unimaginable. She's made mistakes -- she's human. She hasn't coped very well.

The crew generally isn't badass.

Jurati is a terrified, neurotic mess who lived a sheltered life on Earth that did not remotely prepare her for this. She steps up because she has to step up, but only after breaking down and doing something horrible.

Raffi is competent within her field, but her field is planning and logistics, not combat. And she's also a paranoid drug addict who ruined her relationships with her family.

Rios is a competent pilot, but he's not presented as being exceptional, just what one would expect from someone with Starfleet experience.

Elnor is a highly skilled swordsman with no real world experience and the emotional control of a child.

There's definitely a large human population on Earth, but everyone we've seen is the child of someone important, or someone important, Yes Jacob Sisko is too super important, he runs a museum that serves food, just like Picard's dad, a huge legacy experience and cultural land mark.

But I doubt it's billions of bone idle people without an impressive skillset and impeccable security clearance, breeding till they cover the planet 5 miles deep.

What's unusual about Seven is that she's occupying a moral space that's usually held by one of the guys (Sisko, Picard, Kirk, etc.).

Except Kira. Kira was the first real badass female in Trek. Well technically maybe Ro but I was thinking more in terms of series regulars. Yar could have been and maybe was but she never got serviced all that great in season 1. I do know Yar would have been a awesome character by the time Pillar showed up if she hadn't left. Crosby made a real big mistake leaving but of course nobody can see the future so it's hard to say she made it for a foolish reason.

Janeway is good but you got to give some bad ass points to Jadzia as well seeing as how she likes to fight like Klingons and actually has a sense of humor like moving Odo's furniture around and of course whenever someone wears a sexy towel after Wrestling and then going and beating some Ferengi at one of their gambling games you got to be considered a bad ass. Torres as well. She didn't take shit from nobody and then hooked up with the coolest guy on the ship in Tom. Former ladies man and hot shot pilot hunk.

Enough about the bad-ass stuff,Trek was never that kind of show.
It’s easy to forget but nearly every character in every iteration of the franchise is a life taker.
Whether close up with a phaser or simply pressing a button on the bridge.

As for Seven joining the Ferris rangers, has anyone speculated that perhaps she joined with Chakotay. He at least had a history of that sort of thing.

Rios has to be a badass. He smokes a cigar while on duty.

Jason

I doubt his cigars are carsonogenic.

Wuss.
Why not? One was comprised of her nanoprobes and The Doctor's mobile emitter.

Half of One's biological makeup came from HER.

The mobile emitter and Seven's nanoprobes made an incubator, that attacked and harvested DNA from Ensign Mulcahey.

One didn't get any Hansen DNA.

24th century cigars are non-carginogenic and have synthotine, whose effects are only psychological and can be shaken off.
