Omega molecules in DSC

And tbf it wouldn’t matter if omega didn’t belong in the DSC time period - it’s been in “Star Trek” before so it’s fair game.

Janeway specifically said that Omega particles were theorized as having been the cause of the Big Bang, so there's nothing saying that they can't have knowledge of them in the 23rd century. For anyone to complain based on the fact that they weren't mentioned until VOY would be akin to complaining if they mentioned deuterium because it was never referred to in TOS. The substance exists. Just because they didn't mention it in other shows, doesn't mean they can't mention it in DSC.

That episode of Voyager says an Omega molecule was synthesized by the Federation in the late 23rd Century. Which means they did have knowledge of it in that century.

Maybe Discovery encounters a naturally occurring one, or finds information on it some how that leads to the event later in the century

Exactly. It doesn’t matter which show it was mentioned in, it can still be in DSC. Omega molecules have been in *a* Star Trek show before, so it’s ok to be in Discovery.

Maybe the red things in s2 will be related to a naturally-occurring omega molecule?

Or at the very least, Starfleet is working on WMD-type things in the 23rd century under the guise of “science” - it’s no coincidence that the genesis device could also annihilate the population of a planet in the middle of the federation-Klingon Cold War. The development of omega molecules could be part of a wider “scientific research” programme where the underlying science could always be used as a wmd against the Klingons - because section 31.

I LOVED this Voyager episode and I hope it DOES come up in Discovery. Tying the series together, I'm a big fan of this. :p
Same - it’s one of the better VOY episodes (when VOY was done well, it tended to be done very well). And I’d love a link to the rest of the larger “whole” of “Star Trek” :)
