Anyone got images they created waaaay back in their youth or earlier adulthood?

Not sure exactly when I drew this one. I suspect around 1977, surely based on a photo. That planet has HUUUUUUGE rivers. And the big E's starboard phaser is kinda bending back in toward the other beam...Scotty better check that.

Just for giggles, I made the background dark after I scanned it. I wasn't about to spend time doing it with markers!

This one says June 1979 on the back. I was drawing this based on the Mike Minor renders of the TV refit as photos of the final TMP ship hadn't landed in my hands, yet. The lettering was used at the big presser where the film had been announced 15 months earlier.


I have a couple of starship drawings done like 3rd or 4th grade I need to dig out and scan.

Alas I have no idea where the Empire Strikes Back Hoth Assault Stick Figure Theater I did when I was 9 went... I used to sketch the TOS enterprise on just about everything in Junior High and I have no idea where those are either.

I know it's probably out there (my mom used to save everything), but I don't know where. One of my prouder efforts was from a middle school art class where we had to think up a product and design packaging for it; I borrowed a gag from an old issue of MAD Magazine and did the Star Trek Toilet Plunger, with the tagline "To Boldly Go Where Too Many Men Have Gone Before."

This was before the idea of modular hulls, saucers and nacelles.
He felt--before contamination--as it-were--that Klingon and Federation ships might actually to begin to look like each other. Technology shared as each learned from the other.

Around 1975 or before, I remember drawing swept back nacelles. I tried forward swept versions--but it looked like a mallard

Only the curvy ship is mine. The rest were fellow contestants of that particular challenge (I think this was a SCN challenge, for those of you old enough to remember) which I drew into a single picture. Because static ships were so boring:

I did a decent amount of Trek-related stuff when I was learning LightWave back in the early 2000s. Most of this stuff never got textured, because I hate painting textures.

An early experiment with image-based lighting, done I believe in LightWave 6.0, right after they added the feature. It wasn't even an HDRI, just a jpg and I cranked the GI intensity super high to get it to illuminate the scene.

From around the same time, a workbee based on some unused designs for Star Trek: Nemesis. My brother did the lighting for this one; I still like how it looks.

I also started to build an Ambassador class, but only got the saucer modeled when a software crash corrupted the model.

I also took a crack at designing a more "retro" version of the NX-class. This was heavily inspired by one of Vektor's ships as I recall.

And, most importantly, the very first thing I ever built in 3D, the USS Adequate.

There's a lotta smoothing errors on that neck. Hooboy.

And a bonus Star Wars ship: a model based on an unused Naboo fighter concept from Doug Chiang.

Soooo... The archive goes back to october 2003. But I'm fairly certain it's older than that; I drew it on notepaper of my then-job, but I had left them by 2003 so it's at least a year older.

It's actually quite a funky shape. I think I can work with this...

Circa 1975, maybe '76: The "gummy" colors were "oil based" crayons supplemented with colored pencils.

Reduced to "greyscale" for clarity.

Circa 1977: It's actually a "full length" portrait, but it wouldn't fit on my scanner. Colored pencil.

These were a few ships I made back in 2004 or 2005 using a program called Ray Dream Studio, which was actually from 1995. Its modeling tools were really cumbersome and so when you combine that with my lack of experience at the time, these are the results:

I remember that I remade Voyager at least once in the same software but I have no idea where I put any renders of the later iterations.

Back in high school more than 15 years ago, I got the insane idea that I was gonna work on an updated version of Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise. Ultimately, the project went nowhere beyond research and a bunch of sketching/drafting. The first place I started was drawing blueprints for the sets from TFF and TUC, so these are my renditions of the Torpedo Launch Bay and the Assault Phaser:

Here's baby's first attempt creating the Enterprise bridge in a game engine, circa 2001 when I was in 10th or 11th grade. I think all the textures were made in MS Paint.

This is the oldest piece of "fan art" I have. It was drawn on the inside cover of my copy of Dinosaurs and More Dinosaurs, and I'm guessing it dates to 1971–2 when I was 8. Retrospectively I'm amused by my attempt to show the ship whooshing by by distorting it. I must have seen the shuttlecraft to get the number. I also see that I interpreted the concentric rings on the underside of the saucer as steps.



I had years later started drawing a "better" more accurate Enterprise to the upper right blasting my earlier drawing, then tried to liquid paper it out (a la Spielberg special editioning and then un-special editioning E.T.). Here I just now photophopped all traces of that Lucas-ing out of existence to get back to the original.

Okay, it appears @Maurice has me beat by a span of 3 to 5 years, his '71, maybe '72 compared to my '75, possibly '76.

Anybody have an older example, from the '60s when the original series was still on prime time?
