Okuda, Sternbach, Probert, etc... anyone else feel you know them?

I'm watching my TOS season 1 Blu-ray discs. I'm watching "Where No Man Has Gone Before" with the Starfleet Access picture-in-picture interviews turned on. When Michael and Denise Okuda pop-up I say "Oh hey, I know them."

I have to stop and remind myself, "No... you've read some of their books and some posts on TrekBBS. You don't know them." For me it's the same story with Rick Sternbach and Andrew Probert. I don't feel like I know William Shatner or Zachary Quinto. I don't feel like I know any of the people that I actually see on Star Trek every day or other Trek authors so I think it's because of TrekBBS and the feeling of community here. For instance, when Squiggy was on TV for sitting under a hole in an airliner I told my wife "I know that guy." That one I don't feel disingenuous about, probably because the frequency with which we both post.

Anyway, how about you? Do you have famous people (mainly Trek) that you don't really know, but feel like you do because of some minor thing in common like TrekBBS?

I am rather the opposite from you. I actually do/did know several of the people from TOS and TNG because I became friends with some and worked with others.
It is the people on TrekBBS I do not know. I do not post as often as some, but I do my part; yet I do not feel as though I know any of the posters. A few have added me as friends on here, but they do not speak and I rarely go to conventions any more.
My participation here is mainly to keep up with the news and even have a little fun. We do not have a Star Trek club around here. My ex-fiancee belonged to one in Charlotte, NC which was more of a clique (not welcoming of 'outsiders').:techman:

I know all their secrets.

Especially that one time with the water baloons, the chewing gum, the rabid dogs and the towing truck. You know what I'm talking about, you wild and crazy guys.

Yeah! I feel like I know Andy Probert...
...oh wait, it's because I *do* know him. Never mind. ;)

i do feel i know the authors because i've chatted with them in the TrekLit forum and on another forum in some cases...
