Ok. What is the chance of a Picard spinoff?

Coming next fall to Paramount+

Season 3 was a hit by fans and critics. It was in the top 10 of streaming shows according to Nielsen (the first Star Trek show to make it). It seems like a no brainer.

What are the chances of a spinoff in your opinion? I know I want it! I agree with Terry Matales, 25th century is the present time of Star Trek.

I want to see 7 as captain. The growth of Jack. I want to see more legacy characters like Kira, O'Brien, Mortak, Bashir, Paris, etc.
As of today, I'd say 5% for Legacy.

It's also the new characters like Mura, Esmar, Dr. Ohk, and whoever they get to fill T'Veen's slot.
Eh, they're barely characters. Mura's trademark is staring dramatically, Esmar was just there to speak jargon and for some reason sit in the Captain's chair when the Borg virus took hold. Dr. Ohk was just there to get upstaged by Crusher.

You'd just have to laugh if the Picard spin-off that some fans are screaming for isn't anything like what they expect. Instead of the adventures of the Enterprise-G, we get the further adventures of Picard on the La Sirena. I'd laugh.

Maybe there's something to the Picard movie rumor a while back.

I could see a P+ movie starring Stewart where they need to drag him out for some adventure on the Ent-G (that also may act as a backdoor pilot for the next series).

It was all the guy could do to physically get through three seasons of Picard.

I doubt Paramount will give him anything more than a guest starring role.

Fans were screaming bloody murder when Chapel swung both ways on SNW ("Nurse Chapel done gone WOKE!").

Let's not have the sons and daughters of all of our heroes from the TNG era as the leads, let's not have the entire pitch be to go back and check in on Bajor and Cardassia or the Klingon Empire or whatever.

If the show goes on for multiple season, would it hurt to visit Bajor and Cardassia once? Its not like they are going to be the focus of this series. There’s no need to flesh them out further than they have been already.

If anything, this is a time for Bolians and Haliians, or various client species under the Romulans such as Corvallens and Boslics, to shine.

imagine TNG where it spent half the time looking for the descendents of Kirk, Uhura, Spock etc.

IDK. If David Marcus or Peter Preston had lived, they might have appeared on the show.

Imagine if Voyager's engineer was Worf's younger cousin

She’d go on and on about being in Worf’s shadow?

imagine Enterprise where instead of T'Pol we had an ancestor of Tuvok

I mean, that bit is still possible. There’s a whole century of undefined history for her to be a great grandmother of Tuvok’s.

As T’Pol being half-Romulan as planned for the fifth season of ENT is non canon, at this point.

I think part of the problem now is we don't get the length of time with the characters on a new series. We had 20 episodes with Rios or Jurrati, just 10 with Dhaj. Even the 27 we've had with Raffi was about the number of episodes we had with anyone in TNG Season 1.

13 episode seasons are clearly far cheaper to produce and far less stress on the cast and crew, but it also means we don't get as comfortable seeing the same characters week in, week out.

That’s not the issue. The writers just don’t focus on them.

I mean, yes, focus and develop the main characters. But there is no reason they can’t drip feed new information or development about the minor characters each episode. Or take an episode, and have the main characters meaningfully interact with the minor characters to get to know them better.

Eh, they're barely characters. Mura's trademark is staring dramatically, Esmar was just there to speak jargon and for some reason sit in the Captain's chair when the Borg virus took hold. Dr. Ohk was just there to get upstaged by Crusher.

That’s just standard for the current era. The same thing happens with every member of the bridge crew not named Burnham or Saru on Discovery. And with Jenna Mitchell and Erica Ortegas on SNW, the latter of whom is a main character!

These shows are far more influenced by TOS, VOY and ENT then they are influenced by TNG and DS9.

TrekMovie interview with Terry seems to put the odds of Legacy at the moment pretty close to 0%.

Just to put a button on it, since Picard wrapped up last April – not counting the period during the WGA strike – has there been any discussions or work on Star Trek: Legacy with Paramount?

There’s not. They have Star Trek that they are making and they only have so much money and streaming space. There’s currently not, but we’re looking forward to whatever the Star Trek universe brings… and never say never.
