Whereas SNW is ST09 2.0.
Hardly. If anything, it's TOS 2.0.
Well a reboot masquerading as a prequel...

It's not like PS3 ripped off the ending of TVH,
Which is surprising, considering they ripped off nearly everything else from the films.
Whereas SNW is ST09 2.0.
Well a reboot masquerading as a prequel...
It's not like PS3 ripped off the ending of TVH,
Maybe. While Legacy would (well most likely!) be sequel and a continuation.
No, but it feels very much like the only time thise characters were important was serving on the D. There's no value to them with their lives until they are back on the D, and stop the Borg mystery box. It's not like PS3 ripped off the ending of TVH, with Picard, Riker, Data, Troi, Worf, Geordi, and Beverly all serving in their E-D positions on the E-G...
For exactly one mission. Not permanently. There's a difference and you know it.And moves them back.
It's more what it represents. Their value feels tied to position place. To quote the Prophets, 'Why do you exist here?"For exactly one mission. Not permanently. There's a difference and you know it.
Indeed.Wake me up when we know for sure if Legacy will or won't be happening.
Picard -- major development to his family/legacy yes or no arc dating back from "Family" and GEN.Mileage will vary but the nostalgia feels like a cake made of mostly frosting. The characters I don't feel like I know better by the end as the play poker. Except Worf.
Not trueThe SNW Hegemonists don't like the idea of having to share the Star Trek pie.
Also not true. It's more like TOS 2.0.Whereas SNW is ST09 2.0.
No more than TMP or TNG are reboots disguised as sequels.Well a reboot masquerading as a prequel...
Then why do you keep bringing it up?Look, I don't let SNW... live rent free in my head
Both curiosity as to the appeal when Season 1 feels the same and desire to gain appreciation of your point of view.Look, I don't let SNW, or for that matter Michael Chabon, live rent free in my head. I don't understand why others let PS3, potential Legacy, or Terry Matalas live rent free in theirs.
Just don't out them on the D and this would land better.family/legacy yes or no arc dating back from "Family" and GEN.
Riker -- get to see him in command, how he interacts with Picard as a true peer, recovers from a family tragedy
Data -- his fate leftover from NEM gets resolved, he "becomes human"
Geordi -- fatherhood vs duty to former crewmates, reconnecting with Data
Worf -- we few dispute this one!
Beverly -- her arc is admittedly constrained by having to keep everything PS1 established about the 2379 to 2399 timeline, but she's definitely a different person, and her relationship with Picard isn't exactly frozen in place...
Troi -- she gets the least screen time, and her arc has some similarities to "Dark Page" vis a vis her mother, so this one is likely the most open to criticism, but there were real world structural constraints
Many SNW fans do seem quite opposed to Legacy, so...Not true
There's another thread on the General page going more in depth on this to litigate it further, but at the very least there's no clear consensus on this one, so... it'll come up in compare and contrast threads. And again, not true.
I'm not over in the SNW subforum constantly bringing up why that series sucks. I wasn't on the BBS in 2019 constantly posting no, no to what became SNW...Then why do you keep bringing it up?
Except, Picard doesn't suck.I'm not over in the SNW subforum constantly bringing up why that series sucks. I
I'll go a bit further and say Season 1 and 3 tell similar stories with the characters. It's actually a good mirror of the two, reflecting a similar movement of TMP and TWOK.Hey, even I'll say that Picard season 3 doesn't suck. It's just not the second coming that certain segment of the fandom seems to think it is.
How can you tell? Did you poll them? Many SNW fans do seem quite opposed to Legacy, so...
Anecdotally, many (vocal) fans here and on Twitter/X. Granted, it could just be hyperbole...How can you tell? Did you poll them?
It's not so much that some people are against the idea of "Legacy" happening. It's the deification of Matalas that rubs some people the wrong way. He's touted as the Savior of Star Trek, which implies the franchise needs saving.Anecdotally, many (vocal) fans here and on Twitter/X. Granted, it could just be hyperbole...
Or ignoring the idea of diversity of different story telling ideas. It's not so much that some people are against the idea of "Legacy" happening. It's the deification of Matalas that rubs some people the wrong way. He's touted as the Savior of Star Trek, which implies the franchise needs saving.
It doesn't.
Fans of Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks, Discovery, and Prodigy cannot help but feel insulted by the Matalas Cultist, constantly telling them that their favourite shows are garbage and that what they value from the franchise is crap because their shows weren't touched by the hands of Terry.
What's funny is that by all accounts, Matalas seems like a decent guy and a pretty good showrunner. It's the "TruFans" who have seemingly started this culture war of Terry Trek vs. Kurtzman Trek. How it has to be one or the other, totally negating the fact that Kurtzman hired Matalas.

Then there's Terry telling the fans, "Don't you want to see what happened to Alexander?" (Not especially.)
It's the sort of thing that can be resolved with a couple lines of dialogue. He doesn't need his own plotline!![]()
Riker: "How's Alexander?"
Worf: (Insert dialogue here)
Don't get me started on the fans who insist on having Naomi Wildman, Kestra Troi-Riker, Alexander, and Miral Paris serving on the Enterprise-G together! (God, it sounds like bad fanfic)
this is one of the issues I could see with Legacy depending on the fan. Either too much fan service (OMG enough with the memberberries) or not enough (where is Admiral Janeway, Captain Harry Kim, General Kira, etc…give them all to me NOW. You promised Matalas)
if Legacy happens it’s gonna be tricky to find a balance.
