Ok. What is the chance of a Picard spinoff?

I just gotta ask.... what is it that makes SNW unwatchable?

Predictable plotting?

I knew where the episode was going halfway through the pilot.

Speaking as someone who has butted heads with you in the past, I can say that my biggest issue is that if there is a "Cult of Matalas," you come off as one of their holy priest. You gate keep and insinuate that fans of the newer series are somehow "Lesser Trekkies."

Can Terry write Trek? Yes.

Is Terry Matalas God's Gift to Trek? No.

Fair enough. Though in the shows defense, you are talking about the pilot. First episodes aren't exactly known for being deep. It did its job in getting everyone where they're supposed to be, told an alright story, and got the ball rolling for future episodes.

Is Terry Matalas God's Gift to Trek? No.

Can Terry Matalas write? Sure.

Is Terry Matalas that much better than other Trek writers? Not really.

Does he seem to be an alright guy? Sure.

Several people here engage in borderline bullying and dehumanization, while also wishing for Berman era Trek fans to be excommunicated from the ST fandom.

"Holy Priest"? "Excommunication"?

Perhaps there IS something to Trek's long-rumored "holy wars." :shifty:

I realize I'm one of this board's "villains" (omg... I'm a fan of Berman era Trek, want continuity/the shared universe/think ST is a period piece, don't want a backdoor reboot, and think NuTrek is far less successful than it could have been),

Oh please. There’s disagreements here. Having unpopular opinions doesn’t a villain make and no one sees you that way. A little dramatic, maybe. But certainly entitled to voice your opinion, even if some don’t agree with it.

Star Trek was a lot more interesting before it became a religion.
Hyperbole aside, thanks to the decline in religious belief and the rising culture wars, political values have become quasi-religious. There is a particular division in US Liberalism between modernist liberalism and postmodernist social justice progressive activism. So this could be part of the divide in Star Trek fandom, especially the mixed reception of NuTrek. Politics certainly informed the reception of PS1 and PS2, and the lack of a distinct political agenda in PS3 was also noted...

Didn't Shatner actually say this to fans?

Well, no and yes. It was part of a skit on SNL I believe. He addressed the members of SNL who acted as zealous fans. But some fans felt as if he did in fact address them.
And honestly, yes. It really is just a show. I love it, I like to get deep into the lore at times. But the way some people on this forum and others will go extremes in their arguments over something very trivial, is often truly scary in my opinion.

Literally verbally assaulting others for saying something either negative or positive about one of the shows is honestly downright psychotic behavior.

That seems to happen in many fandom groups. In the days of usenet I was on a B5 board were some people were absolutely fanatical about the show. Many overheated arguments.

I just want to be entertained. There have been aspects of all Trek I’ve found entertaining. If I didn’t, I’d stop watching.

And sometimes the discussions here are entertaining. You can tell when they start to be a chore for me. I stop posting for a stretch. But I always seem to come back.

Trek BBS is basically the Hotel California. You can log out anytime you want, but you can never leave.
Ain't that the truth.
it's easier to lurk :)
Wish I could agree. That fateful day in 1999 when someone promoted this board on another board I was posting on, I looked around, someone posted something I really didn't agree with. I should've kept scrolling or moved on to looking at another thread. But, nope, I just had to register and respond...

I lurked here for many years before joining. Had a great time of it.But something about Pic season 3 really brought out an element I found unpleasant and I haven't really been paying enough attention to know if it's changed all that much.

I can't even tell. There was a situation that I was gearing up for, I'm not going to say what it was, but it ended up not happening. So, there's that at least. Things could've been worse.

Anyway, unrelated to that, I decided to watch The 12 Monkeys in its entirety. Finished it a few weeks ago. I wanted to see what Terry Matalas does with an entire series where he's working with the same characters in the same story from start-to-finish. If Legacy happens, I'm hoping for continuing and overlapping storylines that keep going and don't completely wrap up at the end of a season. The 12 Monkeys kept things going, just like DS9 and BSG. Or, out of genre, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Orange Is the New Black, to a degree Mad Men, and what most other serialized shows I've seen have done.

EDITED TO ADD: The most ironic thing is that it's Prodigy that's the one Star Trek series in this era so far which is continuing the same general story from one season to the next.
