Re: Ok Trekkers, Don't Forget To Sign Up For Mandatory Obamacare Oct 1

The Republican and conservative method of negotiation often reminds me of the following movie line:

"I like you. That's why I'm going to kill you last."

Wagons East!

Re: Ok Trekkers, Don't Forget To Sign Up For Mandatory Obamacare Oct 1

Straight party vote.
.

That's the sucky thing about being in the minority. Your votes aren't needed to pass in a democracy.

To quote Churchill

It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried.

Sometimes what happes is that a party or parties are elected to office which hold views different from our own. Now there can be many reasons for this amongest which is that the party which most cloesly holds similiar views to ours didn't do a good enough job of selling itself to the electorate. So it has to try harder next time around.

Re: Ok Trekkers, Don't Forget To Sign Up For Mandatory Obamacare Oct 1

Fareed Zakaria had a good article on CNN recently. One thing he said which really stuck with me was that in a democracy, the process is more important than the outcome.

Bringing the process to a halt because you don't like the outcome is very anti-democratic.

Re: Ok Trekkers, Don't Forget To Sign Up For Mandatory Obamacare Oct 1

Are you forgetting the sequester we're currently in? I'm guessing you are.

A lot of them are forgetting it. Conveniently so. Others just don't care because it's about the cheap political points and nothing more.

Besides, if these clowns cared about the sequester it would never have happened in the first place. It's all about trying to make Obama look bad and torpedoing the second term.

Re: Ok Trekkers, Don't Forget To Sign Up For Mandatory Obamacare Oct 1

Because that's not compromise, that's "Do what I want, or I fuck over the country." Otherwise known as blackmail, or an ultimatum.

That's laughable.

Just like the "debt limit".

No matter what dribble you hear from the news, we DO NOT need to increase it to pay our bills, we just very simply need to make some cuts.

All we are doing is increasing the spending limit on an institution that has proven they can't be responsible when it comes to spending.

So what do you cut? do you for example to a blanket cut of say 5% across all government departments? Or do you ring fence certain departments? Do some departments get bigger cuts than others?

And I suspect you would still need to increase it this year at least, because it would take for cuts to have an impact.

All kind of cuts could be made.

Knock 200 billion off the Defense Department. All kinds of redundancy across the branches of service.

Eliminate the Department of Education. The Founding Father are still rolling in their graves. The State can handle education.

Implete the Penny Plan (look it up) and balance the budget in 9 years.

Eliminate the Department of Energy... what do they do anyway?

Institute the Fair Tax and eliminate the IRS.

The list goes on and on...

But they never cut.... never....

Straight party vote.
Mh, that's kinda how democracy works. Next time try to win the elections.

Completely unconstitutional decision.
I don't think you get to decide this. It's the Supreme Court's job.

Their constituents and the majority of the American people don't want it. The polls were CLEAR when they voted it
You don't really get how democracy works, do you?

No, I have no idea... please explain it to me.

The ACA will account for at least 6 percent of GDP, it was stupid to pass it without bu-partisan support. They are now understanding that.

The ACA is a Democrat (Hillary) pipe dream... it's too bad the media decided the 2008 elections.

Re: Ok Trekkers, Don't Forget To Sign Up For Mandatory Obamacare Oct 1

Of all the things the Founding Fathers of this democracy could be rolling in their graves over, I sincerely doubt the existence of the federal Department of Education since the late 1970's would be one of them.

And for the record: the Department of Energy is responsible for this nation's still-huge arsenal of nuclear weapons among other duties. A simple Google or Wiki search of the DOE would explain what it does and its responsibilities.

Whether you like and agree with it and its very existence or not is entirely up to you.

Re: Ok Trekkers, Don't Forget To Sign Up For Mandatory Obamacare Oct 1

Hilariously, Republicans got less votes than Democrats did in the House. They were just all operating out of gerrymandered districts, so they squeezed by.

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-m...hoyer-house-democrats-won-majority-2012-popu/

Well Yanks misses the whole point of democracy. If people are overwhelmingly unhappy about the law, they will start voting out those who were responsible for it.

But since that hasn't yet happened...
Why do you think that Republicans are holding the country (and the world if it lasts till the debt ceiling decision) hostage. They lost, the majority of the people want it and their lies about the ACA have only convinced the people who would support the GOP for anything without considering it. They know that after a while it will be like Medicare and Social Security. A completely accepted part of being a citizen and if they touch it, people get upset.

This is the only chance they have left to stop it and they're willing to take the whole country down to do it. They don't care what is best for America, it's just what's best for them. Hopefully they'll get voted out in the next election and replaced by someone with common sense of either party. It would be nice to get some reasonable Republicans back in office.

TEA Party across the board. :techman:

Re: Ok Trekkers, Don't Forget To Sign Up For Mandatory Obamacare Oct 1

He said reasonable Republicans. Not bat-guano insane reactionaries and borderline sociopaths who think the country hasn't been any good since the DuMont Network existed.

Knock 200 billion off the Defense Department.

This just might be the only thing I've read of yours that I actually agree with.

Eliminate the Department of Energy... what do they do anyway?

For starters, some unimportant little stuff like policy regarding safe handling of nuclear material. (Oops, sorry, eddie, I was writing at the same time you were.)

Institute the Fair Tax and eliminate the IRS.

Someone still has to administer and collect this so-called Fair Tax. If the IRS were abolished, they would just create a new agency or expand the duties of another.

Good grief. Isn't education bad enough in Red States?

You don't really get how democracy works, do you?

You lose the election, you don't get to decide shit. It's pretty straightforward, really.

Re: Ok Trekkers, Don't Forget To Sign Up For Mandatory Obamacare Oct 1

Completely unconstitutional decision.

It was written as a tax, the only way it could be constitutional is if the SC changed it and made it a tax.

Wrong. The court ruling by definition was a ruling that the ACA was indeed constitutional under the umbrella of the power of the United States Congress to levy federal taxes within this nation's borders. They studied and interpreted the ACA and decided that indeed it can be justifiably declared perfectly legal and legitimate because of that Congressional taxation power enshrined in Article I of the Constitution. There were no sinister left-wing shenanigans going on to manipulate the law behind closed doors, and please remember that the conservative John Roberts appointed by George W. Bush sided with the liberals on the Court to declare the law a constitutional legislative act that was not in violation of federal law.

You calling it unconstitutional and not liking it is your prerogative, but doesn't change what a conservative Republican Chief Justice and four other members of the Court decided to uphold as proper and legitimate.

Bull$hit.

The ACA was NOT written as a tax, it was interpreted as one.

So, the DOW does do something

Aside from that, I'll bet there is TONS of room to slash.

You need to read up on the fair tax.

Had to look up "DuMont Television Network"

Re: Ok Trekkers, Don't Forget To Sign Up For Mandatory Obamacare Oct 1

By a court. And a conservative Republican Chief Justice and four others. Who all decided that the ACA is constitutional and legal for the reasons listed in the text of the printed decision. Five justices of the High Court who have a helluva lot more knowledge and experience with the United States Constitution and interpreting the laws of this vast country than anybody on this message board and likely most of us combined.

You can call the Court ruling bullshit if you want, but it changes nothing about a center-right GWB appointee as Chief Justice saying it's proper and legal.

The Federal Department of Education serves no purpose but to affect education and is dependant on the party in charge. It should not be in existence.

And sadly, I don't get to cut anything.

Re: Ok Trekkers, Don't Forget To Sign Up For Mandatory Obamacare Oct 1

If a clean bill was presented before the house, the Tea Party members would be able to vote No to the bill. They might lose but that's demorcay at work.

They want to delay certain provisions of the PPACA for a year, does anyone here really think that come 2014, they wouldn't try delaying them again for another year, then the same story in 2015?

That's an unsatisfactory argument.

Can't you say the same for the over 1000 waivers given (unlawfully) and that delay in for the businesses as well?
