Ohio teen expects to be suspended for trip to prom

What happens outside of the school is none of the school's fucking business. This is an incredibly ridiculous situation. Burn the school down, I say! BURN IT!

I'm having a bad day.

That's okay, that's how I feel on my good days. :techman:

Life is replete with decisions and consequences isn't it?

By the way, why do you dislike Christians so much?

My question to you is why are holding hands and dancing against Christian values? Young couples can have a good time and show affection without having pre-marital sex.

Granted, my knowledge of Christian theology is limited, but I don't quite get why the school would try and ban such things outside of a classroom context.

Good question and I have no idea. I don't agree with this school but the OP clearly dislikes Christians for whatever reason.

First, I do not "hate" Christians. I don't hate anyone.

I do have a beef with Christians (the afore mentioned "wide brush"). But, of course, they started the fight, not me.

Do whatever you want. I don't care until you make it LAW that I live by YOUR beliefs. That's the main beef right there. If they weren't trying so hard to make their God my law, there wouldn't be an issue.

Second, it's bad for the children. It's bad for society as a whole.

You do realize that some companies--including major corporations--can sanction you for certain off-work behavior, right?

This should also be illegal.

I don't believe this is wrong, but then, I work in a field that does monitor off-work behavior. I see this as a "norm". ;)

I'm a nurse and have undergone extensive background checks just to get a license, and every place I have worked has done background checks as well. If I commit a crime, even one that is not job related, I run the risk of losing my license (basically my career) as well as dealing with the legal percussions. I think mandatory background checks are done in other fields as well.

Granted, but we're not talking about committing a crime-- we're talking about attending a Prom. That's still legal in most States. :D

I don't believe I said you hate Christians, did I?

And Christianity is not bad for children. It's the only way they'll have everlasting life. FInally, the United States was founded on Judeo-Christian values. There's bound to be some influence. "In God we trust" and all that.

ThankQ--When did I ever attack you?

And why is it I deserve to be attacked?

(And if it makes you uncomfortable that I have phrased it this way--then that's the point I was making. You went after an entire group when you canNOT make a legitimate claim that every member of that group has hurt you or is out to hurt you. Prejudice is prejudice...and it's not pretty no matter who's doing it, and to whom.)

But really, props to this kid for learning to think for himself. We might be able to salvage this one.

I really really wish I could be more surprised by this. I lived two and a half hours away from my boyfriend for almost a year. We decided to move in together because not only did we really need the help from each other financially, but the distance, while not that great, was still starting to be a major problem.

He is a teacher at a catholic high school.

Now, none of his friends, fellow teachers, students, or the parents of his students can know I live with him or he would lose his job. We had to find a fake address for me, set up a P.O. Box just in case, and we can never have anyone over under any circumstances.

It stinks. So I guess what I'm trying to say is, religion is freaky sometimes.

I think this crap went too far. There are laws that separate church & state. If they collect State money or accreditation, Administrators should respect others' civil rights & keep their noses out of others' private lives especially if the offending incident took place outside of school instructional hours and also between kids that are the same ages.

But, on the other hand, I can see a (very slight) reason for administrational paranoia / serious over-reaction. The Texas cheerleading teacher that posed nude in Playboy & some of the other controversial incidents (ie: Mary Kay Letourneau,) involving students' personal lives. Often including willfully-blind/relatively-uninvolved and exceptionally-busy parents that culminates in dumb decisions on everyone's parts.

Most main stream religions aren't bad for children, just some of the people who teach it to them are bad for children (and I mean besides the obvious Catholic Priest angle).

Fundamentalist: Believing in the fundamentals of something.
Christian Fundamentalist: Believing in the divinity of Christ, His death and ressurrection. In the grace of God. Showing love to both friends and enemies. Being overfilled with love that we just can't stop from sharing it. Enjoying God's love and His creation...

There are many silly norms in society. :)

I don't believe that any factors not directly impacting on one's work should be valid reasons to terminate an employee. There's definitely some wiggle room there, of the "reasonable expectation" sense as associated with, say, the commission of a violent crime or theft. Drug use wouldn't qualify unless it was demonstrably impacting upon the employee's work performance, however one could certainly report the employee to the police and if their procedures caused said employee to be unavailable for work then that would constitute reasonable grounds also.

"Morality clauses" should be entirely illegal, although if there's evidence connecting a nurse working on the side as a stripper with the hospital, such as a uniform displayed in public, that could also reasonably be seen to reflect upon the employer and in the presence of such a connection behaviour could be regulated as it is within the place of employment itself.
