Ohio teen expects to be suspended for trip to prom

We were told interracial dating was wrong because God told the Israelites not to intermingle with other groups. God told them that because He didnt want those other groups false gods to rub off on Israel, NOT because they were a different race - but this is the type of teaching we got.

That is pretty wild, that kind of thinking I think comes from the 50's mentality.

According to the Bible, New Testament, the only thing Jesus asks is for people to be equally yoked when married, i.e. of the same faith. Marrying other races is not against the Bible or Jesus. It is Biblically ok to marry any race or color of person on this planet.

It looks like they missed the point at your school.

This is what he gets for signing something saying he knows the rules of the cult... I mean school.

The agruement is "Well if it doesn't happen at school..."

Well he signed the thing saying he wouldn't have sex or drink, obviously (hopefully) he wouldn't do those at school anyways.

His lose for being a loser who goes to some shit school.

Pretty fucked up school.

Props to the kid for standing up to those tyrannical bastards.

On the other hand, one could argue that if you choose to go to a place, and it has such rules, you should abide by them, knowing that they exist. If you do not agree with the rules then choose to go somewhere else, some place that has rules that fit your wants and desires and gives you the freedom you want.

We are all so hard to come down on the school for their rules, but it is THEIR rules, and you can choose to go somewhere else if you don't like it. His parents obviously also disagree with the rule, so I don't know why they insist on keeping him there.

FYI, NOT all Christian schools are like this. Nor are all Christians!!! I went to one for a year (moved away after that due to family's military transfer), and I can tell you it's a mistake to assume that attending such a school automatically makes you a fundamentalist nutball like this.

But Brent hits on a good point. With any private school, secular or religious, the parents had a choice on whether or not they were going to send their kids there. The parents have made a decision to spend their money there and they should have done their research to know if that was something they could abide by or not.

While I would ideally like to get a Christian education for my children whenever I should have them--I also intend to do my research. I want a strong curriculum, to include science, and I do not want fundamentalism rammed down their throats. There needs to be tight discipline (i.e. no tolerance of any form of bullying, insubordination towards teachers, or other things of that nature), but I think something like this goes way too far. I can tell you that had I seen something like this in the school's rules, I would not send any (hypothetical) children of mine there.

If you're going to send your kids to a private school...interview the teachers. Ask the tough questions. Talk to other parents away from the school (and know what the parents are like that you're talking to). DO YOUR RESEARCH. If you don't...well, that's your fault for not asking the right questions.

My question to you is why are holding hands and dancing against Christian values?

They're not. In the slightest. And come on: anti rock music? I seriously hate the distorted theology that brings about these ridiculous ideas.

I am sick of distorted theology in general. You just see more of it in Christian sects here because the largest religion in the US is Christianity, just like you are much more likely to see it in Muslims in the ME for the same reason.

Every day I wake up thinking it's the 21st Century, and every day I'm reminded it's still the 13th.

The family obviously did know what they were signing up for when they sent the kid to that school; what's in question is whether or not those rules apply outside of the school. Like the issue with the Cheerleader coach who was fired, it will be decided by the courts and the fine print (if they take it that far).

Not ALL Christians are like that. Just certain groups of super strict Baptist. My family's Baptist, but only because before going to a non-denominational church we'd always go to some "First Baptist Church" and they were never THAT strict. Plus, my whole family's been baptized.

It's groups like THESE that give us a bad name. That, and those wackos that Fred Phelps leads who protest at the funerals of fallen soldiers.

What happens outside of the school is none of the school's fucking business. This is an incredibly ridiculous situation. Burn the school down, I say! BURN IT!

I'm having a bad day.

You do realize that some companies--including major corporations--can sanction you for certain off-work behavior, right?

If, say, a kid beats someone up off of school property--I DO think the school should send a message that their actions have consequences. But I think suspending someone just because they attended prom is way too much.

Reading all of this I once again realise that religion gives me a headache! Then again I'm a grown man that believes in the existance of spirits and assorted energies, so perhaps I should sit my corner and be quiet

HAND HOLDING?!?

I see a few sides to this.

If you CHOOSE to go to a fucked up school with fucked up rules, well, so be it.

Second, my god, WHAT A BUNCH OF FUCKED UP PEOPLE!

HAND HOLDING?!?

Christians, just start cutting off dicks and pouring concrete into every little pussy you can find.

Really.

Life is replete with decisions and consequences isn't it?

By the way, why do you dislike Christians so much?

My question to you is why are holding hands and dancing against Christian values? Young couples can have a good time and show affection without having pre-marital sex.

Granted, my knowledge of Christian theology is limited, but I don't quite get why the school would try and ban such things outside of a classroom context.

Good question and I have no idea. I don't agree with this school but the OP clearly dislikes Christians for whatever reason.

You didn't know there's a war against Christianity especially in the US? :wtf:

As for the person in the story, you know the rulez and yous gots to play by them or suffer the consequences.

Brent, The christian school I attended was wild. They were your typical right wing republican religious right school.

We couldnt wear jeans, we had to wear a tie on friday and attend chapel that was boring most of the time. I heard endless lectures on how all rock music is satanic, people who have abortions are going to hell along with gay people and people who date outside their race.

The were pretty racist also. Me being part white, I got called "Half breed" by other students and "nigger" by others. The teachers pretty much ignored what was being said or punished me if I retailiated.

My parents yanked me out my junior year and sent me to a Catholic School, even though I aint catholic. They were just as nutty, but at least we had proms and didnt have to go to chapel every friday and they didnt care who you dated.
