Oh, (Big) Brother!

That would be better. I think he already won $5000 in one of the veto competitions.

Corey and Nicole have played well since about midgame. Nobody has individually played a real standout game this year, but the ones who are left are the ones who kept their emotions under control occasionally.

So anyone actually interested in the CBS All Access season? I actually have the subscription to watch past Survivor seasons but I somehow feel the odds of me actually getting into this is...10%ish? Why get into Big Brother when Survivor is on? Unless they somehow manage a really good cast.

Canadians aren't allowed to watch CBS shows online.

Amazing Race should be starting soon, as well.

Amazing Race has been getting progressively closer to losing my interest the last few seasons.

The casting has been poor and gimmick oriented and they've been focusing more on the U turn which almost always pisses me off because it basically lets you vote someone off in a game that isn't about that.

At the very least they need to enforce the double U turn by stopping you from u turning somebody already through. So it's still a fair race between two U turned teams.

Why can't Canadians watch CBS online, some weird licensing dispute?

I agree that James will win AFP because the vote between Vic and Paul will split for those who liked them, which I still think is the overwhelming majority of fans.

I am hoping the CBS All Access crashes and burns, first for Discovery and now for this. At least I can find Discovery on Netflix.

I will also trot out my yearly chestnut of CBS treating Big Brother like Survivor's poor cousin. Survivor gets a three hour finale with a true reunion show. Big Brother gets an hour and a half show, the majority of which is loaded down with the final two parts of the HOH conversation, a jury roundtable, plenty of Julie Chen over-analyzing. If this show is supposed to be the summer staple for CBS, it should get a proper send off. Replace tonight's clip show with two parts of the HOH and the rest of the jury house stuff and give Big Brother a proper reunion show that is longer than a single segment.

We're not allowed to watch ABC, either, and I presume NBC is the same. It's the same with Hulu, the American Netflix, and numerous other sites.

Geoblocking is really obnoxious.

I do kind of see Big Brother as Survivor lite. Not because it's their summer show so much because of how they cast it and how they edit it. Much younger casts, much more focus on people hating on each other and less respect to strategy. Not to mention that nobody likes the Chenbot and she's pretty much only there because she's married to Les Moonves, and Survivor has a host who understands the game and understands what the audience likes about the game.

Also if you look at Hayden, he came off as an unlikable bully on Big Brother and a good guy on Survivor.

On Big Brother I think the actual strategy is more nuanced and interesting but the cameras don't focus on it.

I agree that James will win AFP because the vote between Vic and Paul will split for those who liked them, which I still think is the overwhelming majority of fans.

I don't think Victor and Paul are that popular with fans. Neither of them ever garnered enough votes to receive care packages when that was a thing and that's probably a good indicator as to how the America's Favorite Player will land. Also, I can't imagine Paul's use of the c-word earned him too many fans.

Natalie was the first to receive a care package and I would've said she was a shoo-in for America's Favorite; but I think after how things went down with James in her final week, her popularity has probably taken a nose-dive. James was the second recipient of the care package and that leads me to believe he'll get the America's Favorite prize for the second year in a row.

Paulie is disgusting. That fight in the jury house between him and Da'Vonne... holy crap. That's the first time I've ever seen one of the technical crew step in to diffuse a situation.

And the flashback of his argument with Natalie disgusted me the first time around. The only good thing about that scene was that I did get a little amusement when Paul just sat back shoveling in the Cheetos and not getting involved.

I predict one hell of a bitter jury on Wednesday.

On the issue of the All Access version later this month: Since I'm not going to be able to watch it, I won't make a thread. If anyone else wants to, I'd be curious to know what kind of game it is, if it's like the regular ones, and if TPTB have anything to say about why they decided to air it so that only Americans can see it.

JR Ewing is a "love to hate" person, because in spite of all the evil he did, he had a couple of redeeming characteristics.

I'm trying to think of any redeeming characteristics Paul has, and coming up blank.

I just plain don't like him, for a number of reasons. Yes, he's the last one standing of the group he was part of, but it doesn't mean he should consider himself a superior player. It's at least as much that the others had someone they hated more or considered more of a competition threat.

Did CBS give him back his pool toy (Pablo), or did I misunderstand something?

My best comparison for why I hate Paul is the same reason in The Office you don't hate Michael Scott.

He just seems like he means well but genuinely lacks self awareness, so it's hard for me to hate him that much. He said some offensive things but he also got mad at the way Paulie treated Natalie. He thinks every little quirky thing he does is endearing because his parents never told him it wasn't, one of those guys who you just know grew up with really permissive parenting.

But he didn't do well in the game by accident or get dragged. He made smart game moves and defended himself or deflected attention whenever he was in danger. He managed his alliance members and got them to calm down when their instinct was to cause a scene. He and Nicole both played the best games this season. So no matter who wins I won't be too mad, either you get one of the best players or the best all around person.

On Big Brother I think the actual strategy is more nuanced and interesting but the cameras don't focus on it.

I agree with this, the strategy can get very deep and complicated in Big Brother, but they just don't choose to focus on that. You do get much more on feeds of course, but even then I feel we're missing the crucial piece, which is what these people are really thinking in the diary room. I hate that we only get little rehearsed snippets of diary rooms, rather than using it as a real confessional for these people to share their thoughts and intentions with us.

I'm wondering how they're going to do this for BB: Over the Top. Since there will only be one live episode a week, that's not enough time to show many DRs, so my hope is that they will put more DR clips online for viewing.

I already subscribe to All Access for the live feeds, so I will check out the new show. I'll give it a shot, but don't know how engaged I can remain. With so many shows starting back up in the fall it would be difficult to sustain the same level of interest that I have during the summer months. There just isn't enough time in the day. But, assuming it isn't a terribly shitty cast, I will try to pay some attention.

I actually think this "spin-off" could end up being better than the original, if only because they will have the flexibility to try out new things rather than being beholden to pandering to the TV-only audience. For instance, the producers put heavy emphasis on showmances, even if they aren't really a big deal in the house. Natalie and James were more friends than anything, but if you just watched the TV episodes you'd think they were about to get married. Zakiyah and Paulie's relationship wasn't portrayed the same way on TV/feeds either; on the feeds it was apparent how awful they are for each other, with Paulie being downright verbally abusive and manipulative and Zakiyah being crazy jealous. You also don't get to see how Nicole reacted to it, which is part of the reason that many dislike her this season. She was basically helping Paulie manipulate Zakiyah, sitting in on conversations with Paulie where he completely demeans Zakiyah and talks about how he can't wait to date other women, then going to her and convincing her that "I'm sure Paulie cares about you and wants a relationship, I just know he wants to be with you after all this!" to ensure she remained loyal to their alliance.

The TV audience is also much younger, while the feed-watchers trend much older (mostly those who have been die hard fans since the early seasons). Without the constraints of having to cater to the younger audience, I think what we'll see in this version will be much more unfiltered. We've also got "confirmation" (I'll believe it when I see it) that they will allow us to view all of the competitions and ceremonies live as they happen on the feeds. I'm hoping they use this unique opportunity to experiment with the show in positive ways! Hopefully some that will even trickle into the summer BB edition.

As for who wins this season...I don't really care at this point. James is a more likeable person but did so very little in the game. He just let things happen to him rather than trying to do anything himself. Total floater. Paul has said some despicable things, but it mostly seems like a front. On the feeds he actually seems like a nice guy. He's also very intelligent and I think actually played the best strategic and social game of the three. Nicole has defended some awful behavior (such as Paulie's or everyone 'picking on' Tiffany when she knew Tiffany was innocent of the accusations), and pretty much laid in bed with Corey all season. She even admits that she barely got to know the people that are now in the jury house. But, she did have some crucial competition wins and there was some strategy to certain choices she made. I guess in the end I'm hoping Paul wins.

My order of winners in preference is Paul, Nicole, then James.
Well, you partly got your wish. James didn't win, nor did he get the "favorite player" money. At least he won $5000 in one of the veto competitions.

I'm glad it was such a close vote, and I'm glad Paul didn't win. Gameplay or no, he said some really disgusting things, and that should never be rewarded.

So... anyone vote on which of those two repulsive people gets to be in the next show (the "access" one that only Americans are allowed to watch)?

So this is on the cbs.com home page.

Vote the last player into the house! Jason (Season 17), or Jozea!

If Jozea gets in I'm not even going to watch episode one.

I would've been alright with Nicole winning if her final speech hadn't been so poor. The "Ohmigosh" routine may have been gameplay, but after Paul's final words, it seemed weak on her part. I think if he had answered the first question to Natalie with something along the lines of "Look, I'm loud, obnoxious and sometimes I let my emotions get the best of me, but I'm sorry if I offended anyone." Even something simple could have swung her or one other vote to his side.

I resist saying this was a bitter jury, but outside of Corey's vote for Nicole and Victor's vote for Paul, I couldn't call any of those votes. I'd like to read on some of their reasonings before deciding on whether this is a bitter jury.

CBS really needs to figure out their timing on finale night. There was no reunion portion at all and barely a mention of the first five evicted. If they had taken some of those unaired clips and used them during the regular show, not only would it have added some levels to the HG's, it would also allow an episode like Friday's to show the first two parts of the HOH.

I won't be able to watch Over The Top here in Canada, so enjoy. It's starting to seem a lot like Season 1 with America choosing the victor, which didn't seem to be a winning formula in that season with American viewers. I hope it does well for the brand, but I'm not sure.

As for next summer, I'm hoping to see either a full veteran cast or a full new cast and that CBS learns to edit better (looking for a hail mary there.)

This is why it's hard to get excited about a season of BB. The producers genuinely think the best people are the narcissistic shitbags like Jozea.
