The Onion pokes fun at Giant Bioengineered Crabs. This is an older meme that stems from the 2006 E3 trade show, used to showcase new video games and technologies. While Sony was showcasing Genji: Days of the Blade, producer Bill Ritch described how they'd made efforts to include a lot of historical details and battles based on those in ancient Japan, and thus add more realism to the game.
He then proceeded to demonstrate a boss battle against a Giant Enemy Crab which he killed by "attacking its weak point for massive damage." Cause, obviously, the samurai had to destroy a lot of Giant Enemy Crabs.
The Onion was one of a number of sources that promptly parodied the incident. RL is funny sometimes.
