I don't know if this little piece of cinema has been posted yet, but I think it's quite funny

And looking at the ship, it is just completely wrong to me. The film website clearly states that the film will respect continuity, but it is stretching it to believe that the design of this ship will then be changed to the design of the ship first seen in “The Cage”, then to the refit from the motion picture.
Since I'm posting this because I discovered my ban was undone for some reason (while I was lurking) and expect to be re banned shortly, you can debate me at youtube (genuinestewey) or wordforge.![]()

It's an altered timeline. This Enteprise never looked the way it did in "The Cage" and the events of this new timeline will not lead up to TMP.
Even if the movie sucks, it'll still have nothing to do with TOS in the Original Timeline.

There's nothing to debate, really.
The mods and admins must have discussed this by now, and it seems you're still here. If I had to guess, I'd say they're either not sure what to do or they're taking a "wait and see" approach.
Actually, I would rather it NOT be an altered timeline. I don't need an altered timeline to justify to myself the changes in the look.
I can simply justify the change in the ship's look by realizing that this is a 2009 movie based on the 1966 TV show and it is NOT a direct continuation of that show (and its films) -- so, of course the ship will look different.
And saying that it's "based on" the 1966 TV show and is not a direct continuation doesn't mean that I don't think it will respect the feel, characters, and "in-universe history" of that TV show -- It can do all of those things and still change set designs. Set designs don't matter that much to me. Set design is not what made 'Star Trek' Star Trek.
The alternate timeline seems a little like the writers bending over backwards to pander to the fanbois.

Whereas some of the more anxiety-ridden seem to think that these producers and designers are bending them over forward - and they're definitely not into it.![]()
I've been in contact with TPTB and I'm allowed back![]()
I just watched the ST XI trailer/interviews at esurance. It's a "kinetic" film with awesome visual effects. Kaboom. Zap. Frenetic action.

I will retreat back to "Devil in the Dark" or watch Benny Russell freak out in "Far Beyond the Stars." Someone tell my wife where I am.
You may need to make a few more posts before images will work, (use theHa! I would paste in that photo of the TOS rockin' bridge and add a smiley if I were tech-proficient enough.
I just think that the OS has the best abrupt-change-of-course, sending-crew-flying shots. Is it reminding us the original had some spectacle? No argument. It just SEEMS like the new film goes WAY far in that direction.
Unfortunately, Sturgeon hasn't been writing a lot lately, but I wouldn't mind seeing more of the kind of story which used to have his name at the top.Total aside re. your tag line: I've read a lot of Sturgeon - what wonderful humane stuff! That's what I'd like in a Star Trek movie. Dare I say "Insurrection" again? Insert smiley here. Be well!
The pre-game coverage begins approximately 23 hours from the time of this post, and the opening kickoff should be shortly after 3 PM tomorrow for me, making it around 9 AM Monday for you (give or take an hour -- I'm doing this in my head and may be off on the Daylight Savings/Standard Time adjustment.)Hey, Super Bowl's on soon right? (I'm a furriner)
According to the information we have, yes and yes.New Trek trailer to be shown, right?
And it'll be on tv, right?
That's not anything I can promise, but it would not surprise me at all to find that it would be available for viewing somewhere in very short order after it's aired on broadcast television. You know teh Internetz. It might also be that something would be legitimately available via NBC's website or that of an Australian affiliate (Channel 9, is it -- the one which had Olympic coverage the last time around?)So, can smart guys... uh... make it available on YouTube for us furrineres?
Oh, I think we can be assured of that.I can't wait fo the New Drama. No, I don't mean the film.![]()
If I recall rightly, in the last couple of years, they were all (or mostly?) collected on one official website or sanctioned YouTube/Google Video channel for viewing within a few days after the game. I'd guess that something similar will be happening this time? (Someone who actually knows the answer, feel free to check in at this point.)We will be getting Super Bowl coverage over here, but we never see the American adverts and special ad-break TV spots.
Dammit.
I hope so. If there's a new trailer I want to see it!If I recall rightly, in the last couple of years, they were all (or mostly?) collected on one official website or sanctioned YouTube/Google Video channel for viewing within a few days after the game. I'd guess that that one will also turn up on one of the official sites (Paramount, StarTrekMovie.com, maybe iTunes?) in pretty short order, in more or less the same way the last one did. I don't think you'll have to wait too long.I hope so.
