Official Trailer Review & Comments Thread!! [Spoilers, of course]

Re: Did anyone catch ...

^Actually, it's been picked up on a couple times. The corvette sequence probably has a lot more material between sliding around the corner and the cop chase.

Re: Did anyone catch ...

Yeah, it's been noticed. The top must be up at the start of the chase, then isn't at the end.

Regarding your post, I tried a couple of times to watch that Confused Matthew review (to which you could easily have linked, but instead forced me to go looking :vulcan: ) and I got tired of waiting for him to get to the point.

Any point.

I have no idea whether he was overreacting or not, but if he can't even get to the beginning of the review by the time the first minute is over, then why should I bother sticking around?

I've given up watching anything on youtube - I always get bored before it gets anywhere. So, I admit, I never even tried looking for that video. Glad I didn't miss anything.
I suppose that there could be something there, but in my experience video blogs tend to be just like the text-based kind, only in even greater need of editing, and this was no exception. The way this Matthew character was faffing around talking about nothing, I just felt as if it was likely to be a lot of effort for not much gained.

The guys over at the official forums had stuff to say about his "Star Trek trailer pre-review" review here, and this is apparently his review for the actual trailer.

Emergency lights?

Perhaps detachable or maybe they can be adjusted in place?
Just an idea of what the "Barcode readers" may be.

There's also duct tape on the bridge.

Really, this bridge looks like a parody. Barcode scanners? Duct tape? Little desk lights? Make-up lights? WTF? Between that and the really terrible looking hallways with the mirror floors and TV-screen walls, the new ENT interiors are not looking very good.

^I misread your post at first and thought you meant that the 'Star Trek: Enterprise' corridors were looking good next to this.

Freudian slip on my part? :rommie:

Eh, I think it looks awesome. Also I doubt that's duct tape since it's not
just something they would have shot for the trailer and is an actual part
of the movie. It looks more like just another part of the console.

It's not a part of the consol, in the 'jumping out of warp' shot in the trailer, the consol is clearly visible and the duct tape is gone.

Anyway, the interiors of the Enterprise that we've seen so far have been the least well designed part of the movie, imo. I can live with them, but they're pretty meh.

I hear ya, Ancient. Abrams chose poorly for his set designer. Nothing about the interiors I've seen so far looks functional. It all looks gimmicky, overwrought, and bright enough to induce migraines.

The odd thing about the Bridge is that if you pull off all the weirdness -- the hostess station, the spotlights aimed into the crews' eyeballs, the barcode scanners, the desk lamps -- what's left behind is actually a good design. It's almost as though someone with an armful of IKEA gift certificates came in after the set was finished and made some "last minute adjustments". I wonder if there's something to this ... cosmetics added for certain scenes so that it looks like a totally different set for other scenes when they're removed.

Unfortunately, there's no such hope for the corridors.

I believe the shot showing the roll of tape on the console was removed from the revised, "Old Spock" version of the trailer released after the theatrical version. The item is definitely missing in the shot looking from the rear of the bridge toward the viewscreen.

I'll wait to see if there's some nifty effect which makes the bar-code scanners into something more awesome. As to the desk lamps, I was looking at some caps from another Trek movie recently and was amused to discover that there, too, was a noticeable use of designer desk lamps (scroll to the last item in the section -- in that case, they were designed by F.A. Porsche and identified as model "Jazz".)

The corridors, eh. No, they don't look like the most efficient or practical design for starship corridors, but that's hardly anything new for Trek in either series or movie, even going back to the bottleneck trapezoid arch and the ladder in the middle of a busy companionway seen in some cuts of WNMHGB. (I think the same arch turns up in one or two other Season 1 eps, but I'd have to check. [EDIT: It seems to turn up intermittently throughout. I just spotted it in 3rd-season 'Elaan of Troyius'.])
