Official Trailer Review & Comments Thread!! [Spoilers, of course]

I heard a rumor that all the stormtroopers were cloned from one guy!

I know...crazy, right? :p
Yeah, forgot to mention that. If you go off of the prequels, all of 'em are clones of Jango Fett. Never any confirmation that the Stormtroopers in 4-6 were clones, but one might be able to reasonably assume...
Well, the "in-universe" idea is that originally they were all clones of one guy, but eventually they started using different "seed stock" and also (once the Empire was in full swing) drafting people as well. Supposely, by the time of ANH, clones were very rare (and generally the higher-ranking guys).

Of course, Lucas did tread dangerously close to violating stuff he'd allowed to be established as "canon" as well... but never QUITE crossed that line. So, the Zahn novels, where the presence of new clone stormtroopers was actually noteworthy. Apparently Palpatine outlawed cloning at some point before ANH... probably because he didn't want anyone else doing what he'd done and coming up with an "instant Army - just add water!" to oppose him.

I apologize, I am sure there is someone who could entertain your desire for further discourse on the subject. I find no further value in a rock arguing with a hard place, only dirt will be thrown and that has already started.

Julan Tru.
And there was no need for dirt. That said, I think I'd prefer to discuss it with someone else, anyway.

At least we can agree on that.

Nice to see that we can talk like two adults, trekkerguy.

I think the point here is that you know nothing more about this movie than I, or anyone else, does. So, what's the point of going around presuming to tell people what is or isn't in the movie? Something about that just irks me. And you're not the only one who's done it.

Oh, well.

Not to get involved in the cop wars too much, but it does indeed look like a breather on that mask.
It's a freakin' helmet.

Obviously, the character is being portrayed by an actor in a suit, so it shouldn't be surprising that it looks like a guy wearing a suit. But... the character has some funky "hover-motorcycle" there.

Any of you ride motorcycles? It's a lot more pleasant if you've got a face-plate helmet, isn't it? Me, I've never really enjoyed filtering bugs with my teeth. But hey, your mileage may vary...

You know... the more times I see the trailer, the more convinced I am that the whole car thing was filmed specifically for the trailer, and won't be in the movie. Unless that's how the movie gets opened up, or that's how Kirk gets introduced, I'm having a hard time imagining how that'll come into play.

Doesn't make the trailer any less cool to me, I just think we won't see it again.

I think we will. Kirk's dad is killed on the Kelvin. He ends up living with his uncle, who's a drunk and abusive. Smashes his antique car in defiance.

Yeah, it's in the movie.

Oh, and here's a phaser:

^^And that's the one thought that is occuring to me... he destroys druncle's car, and that's how we learn that druncle is also abusive.

How can I save the trailer in my harddisk?
Right click and select "save as" on one of these links:

Yeah, it's in the movie.

Maybe. Looks different from the one in the security dude's hand when Spock is choking Kirk on the bridge. Romulan weapon, perhaps?

After watching the trailer, one thing is abundantly clear to me: This is not my Star Trek. This is something completely different. It's not an eleventh Trek movie. Star Trek is over. This is more akin to the recent movie remakes of classic television shows.

That said, I can't wait to see it. I'm impressed with what I see in the trailer, and I hope that it is will turn out to be a good movie, whether it is true to the universe I have loved since I can remember or not. I just have to remember that this is something new, that while containing characters and settings that I know and love, is not the same thing. I hope I'm able to judge it in it's own right when the time comes.

It's not really any different than when TNG or DS9 came out. Each was its own animal while sharing a certain core with TOS. So long as there's a good story and that core set of essentials it will be a vast improvement over the last ten years.

It does take a little getting used to though...

But, hey, Trekkies are nothing if not resilient. We are fans of the biggest, most diverse franchise in entertainment history. If the story is good, we'll embrace it.

Sorry.. Sorry.. I couldn't resist...

Trek fans love to argue. ;)
