Official Trailer Review & Comments Thread!! [Spoilers, of course]

Well, Trek might as well go for "cliches of teen rebellion," having long since exhausted most every other melodramatic cliche...
Some cliches may work better than others, especially for this middle-aged viewer.

Well, everything works better for some people than others. That doesn't mean the quality of thought behind one cliche is fresher or better than another, though.

Maybe we're all simply most confortable with the cliches we know best. I certainly have thought for many years now that "Star Trek" is "comfort food" entertainment in a lot of ways.

And of course, what would the alternative be, anyway? Another cliche. Kirk as truly a "stack of books with legs." By the book, studious, serious. Then something happens to make him realize it's necessary to take chances. Or, Kirk the geek, who man's up in his first adventure. Or Kirk was just a normal guy and we get shots of him in study hall and playing squash, and eating dorm food. Whatever the choice, it's all in the execution. And in the end, they probably made the most entertaining choice to go with the in-your-face, I'm James TIBERIUS Kirk.

Star Trek as comfort food. I like that.

Since I'm not going to pay a baby-sitter to drag my wife to a James Bond movie (and in doing so piss off all the women in my family), and since I'm certainly not taking pre-teen girls to a Bond movie, and since I'm even more certainly not going alone (like I'd be allowed to), AND since I'm honestly not a Bond fan anyway, and the movie got decidedly mixed reviews, I guess I'll wait until Monday and watch the Trek trailer online.

I've only just seen the shaky cam footage that's appeared online (every good quality though), and I LOVE IT! More please! :D

I believe this is the cadets going to their various ships during the crisis - don't think it's the Enterprise shuttlebay.

I'd almost swear that was Nimoy if I didn't know better.

In the short shot of Kirk in command gold, it looks like there's a lot of braid on that wrist.

As I said in the other thread, I love it! I love love love it! This is really big. You can tell I'm giddy like a little school girl, can you? :D

As AWESOME as this trailer is, I just realized that one thing we've missed in our excitement is that the trailer doesn't show Old Spock. I'm beginning to wonder if his role is more of a cameo than a large supporting role.

No trailer before the showing I saw, though we did get one for a new Adam Sandler movie.

Oh well, at least I've seen the bootleg version...

Really don't think that's a robot cop - the guy's just wearing a protective mask and helmet with breather apparatus. Doubtless it goes with a hover bike.

Yeah, I thought so, too, when I saw the trailer.

It's clear that they've paid a lot of attention to previous "Star Trek" design. They've simply used elements of it as they think worthwhile, integrating them into something more expansive.

Holy freaking crap. That trailer was AMAZING.

That's the kind of Star Trek I've wanted to see for a LONG, LONG time.

THAT was Star Trek.

Well, I saw James Bond tonight, but unfortunately no trailer. However, I have seen the bootleg copy...and WOW! It's amazing! I thought I was excited about this movie before, but now I'm shaking... How long until May 9 again?

Ladies and gentlemen, Vasquez Rocks!

Actually, it looks like the Rocks used as the basis for a digital matte of some kind.

No doubt. Mass audiences probably find the teen angsty thing more interesting than I do -- but then I'm only buying or not buying a ticket for me.

That's a good description, though I can't say the later series made me feel that way . . . more like TV dinners. By the time Enterprise came around, it was like peeling back the foil and finding the cherry cobbler had all dried out.

Quite simply...

I think that the especially quick cuts in this trailer make it IDEAL for those not wanting to be too spoiled...you get an overview but not much else. But for myself, I am dying to see more.

RAMA
