Official Star Trek Week 8 Box Office Thread

Paramount ought to be overjoyed a TREK film has outgrossed films like the first BATMAN, GHOSTBUSTERS, T2, TWISTER and---within a day or two---one of the Harry Potters.

Oh, I'm sure they are thrilled...it is just that Trek is still beating Pelham, Night and Year 1 in terms of take per theater.

Makes you wonder whether it would have made another 100,000 or more with more theaters.

It is so funny though... here it is declining in regular theaters and I get to see it in glorious, "real" IMAX for as long as the wife won't kill me... :p

Then it is on to Blu Ray and spoilers...

Borgminister, I am looking forward to your report back. When do you go?

I'm shooting for tomorrow, work permitting. If not then, definitely Saturday or Sunday.

They will have nightly 8 p.m. showings "for a limited time", i.e., for as long as people come see the movie.

So it'll be interesting to see what kind of crowd shows up. I'll have a capsule report after I see it... :)

After that I'll shoot for another couple of times. Costs 13 bucks a pop, which is pretty good for IMAX.

Nope, big old honking flat screen... It is 65 feet wide, whereas the "standard" screen is put at 72 feet. Not enough of a difference to matter, I don't think. It isn't a multiplex, though, just has a single 290 seat theater.

Domed IMAX theaters are not good (IMO) for viewing "popcorn" movies though. I went through that experience with one of the Harry Potter films at the San Jose domed IMAX.

I agree; I tried the one at the Museum of Science and Industry and got green around the gills.

Yeah, it's crazy, head on a swivel laying back trying to see what's going on on the right, then left, then back to the right of the screen.

But they are good obviously for the 3D nature and astronomy films...

One hopes TPTB take a cue from not just this movie, but Transformers, and perhaps gear portions of the film toward IMAX, if not shoot it entirely in the format.

Time for Trek to be cutting edge again...

Out of the top ten....That sucks. Hope it rebounds for another weekend total in the top ten though.

Theatre Counts for this weekend:

Year One - 2,240 -784 -25.9% 3
The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 - 1,908 -1,087 -36.3% 4
Night at the Museum 2 - 1,419 -831 -36.9% 7
Star Trek - 1,148 -675 -37.0% 9

a lot of the big big films have contracts for specified number of weeks they will be in a certain size theatre ect..

i sorta suspect trek was hurt due not a lot of people suspecting it was going to be this big.
and around here it does seem paramount is trying to get it in other places.
it is in one theatre it previously want in from what i remember.
