Official Star Trek Week 8 Box Office Thread

Sooo close to $250 million....can we do it? It's a holiday here today btw, so dunno if that helps.

The average given is per site, right? Per screen might be pretty solid, if it's only showing in one screen per theatre. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I mean, Paramount wants to maximize profits, don't they?

I am sure they do. They are not pulling the movie from theaters, it's the theaters themselves that have to drop some movies since they are committed to some of the newer movies. In some cases Trek is moving to a another theater (like in the Hollywood area), so Paramount is booking it somewhere else if available..

That makes sense, thanks. Like I said, my IMAX will pick it up SOON, and it'll be very interesting to see what kind of business it does. 290 seat theater, 65 foot wide screen...

Wow. I've been to 38 movies this year alone.
I was way overdue. Fact is, though, I have a vision problem. For many years it was virtually impossible for me to watch video or read. I've been on the federal Talking Book program since 1990. I use adaptive software to make sound files off the internet and for books. About a decade ago, I started taking medication twice a day that helps my situation. When I go to see the movie, I have to plan to do nothing else with my eyes that day.

Perfect timing then - medication to help your eyes just as Star Trek is made :)

Glad you were able to enjoy it!

Doesn't seem like Ice Age and Public Enemies will cut into the (remaining) audience for Star Trek, does it?

Also, my IMAX will be showing Star Trek nightly at 8 p.m.... wonder how many other "new" IMAX theaters this will be happening at?

Who knows, the long weekend could still be very good...

Star Trek has been dropped from my area, as well. Drag Me to Hell and Imagine That are still playing, though. Imagine That! Maybe, just maybe,
Paramount will pull Star Trek, do a quick re-edit, adding the deleted scenes, and rush a re-release to make it by another opening date of September 8, taking the world by (lightening) storm! Squeeze that turnip!

A re-edit for a theatrical re-release is not going to happen. But if would be cool if they re-release the movie later. There was a time when Hollywood studios used to do that often, but these days once the intial run is over they just move on to the home video release.

They could always do a re-release for Oscar consideration. I doubt it will happen though.

Maybe they should just re-edit the cut scenes back into the movie proper when it comes out on DVD? Jettison the whole "Deleted Scenes" option on the disc's menu and perhaps just include "Extended Sequences" or "Outtakes" instead.

It depends on what Abrams wants. If he cut those scenes out for stylistic/story reasons, then I'd hope they aren't put back in. Especially since the Spock birth scene doesn't seem like it would fit in well, either before or after Kirk's birth scene (seems redundant in a way).

The film won't have as good of legs since there are less days when people are free during the week unlike summer.

But if indeed SM and TIII come out during the summer, that'll leave less time for Trek to prosper, won't it?

It depends on where they might put Trek. June 2011 isn't too bad right now. Holiday 2010 might be crazy since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 1 comes out in mid-November and another Narnia movie in December (which probably won't be big just like PC).

Like I said in another thread, Michael Bay is working on another project before TF3, which means it's likely that TF3 won't actually happen until 2012. So Trek might take its place on July 1, 2011.

Also, on a different note, sadly, Trek will presumably drop out of the top 10 today, as it's pushed out by Ice Age 3 and Public Enemies.

I'll have to see if I can remember where I saw it, but Abrams, in response to an interview question about a possible future "director's cut" edition of the movie, said words to the effect that what was seen in the theaters is the director's cut and that no plans existed to recut the deleted scenes back into the picture.

You've got one of those yellow tape players from the Library of Congress or the Braille Institute?

It's my fault. I've gone every weekend except this past one (because of a death in the family), so my $12 wasn't there to be counted. I'm sorry!
