After a few different threads on this topic I thought it would be to have an official thread to keep updating with all the news from the final week's tracking numbers and then from May 8th the Box office totals in North America & the rest of the world.

Thought I would start by posting STAR TREK 1st stumbling block, Wolverine and the predicted box office opening weekend reported by Box Office Mojo...
$87,000,000 opening weekend (Estimate)
lower than the $90 million which was predicted though finals could take it to that 90 mark.

I'm still betting three thousand quatloos the film will do $120 Mil, first week!

I don't know if this is good news or not but the opening is below X Men 3 ($102.8 million) so fans have already gone away but the question is will they come back...a big drop off next week would be the icing on the cake.

btw IMO Star Trek will make between 60-70 million

Searching for tracking numbers which am sure will be released in a few days so far only this but am not sure on the website....

Predictify forecast - $73 Million

Now that we learned Wolverine opened with 87 million its first weekend I am hoping Trek is around that much too! So I voted for option 3 and my prediction is 90 million.

question is whether those xmen fans that have gone away will go to Trek.

I predict 95 mill. here's hoping...

I expect it to open with $76 million, but have something around a 2.3 multiplier.

A 2.3-2.5 multiplier is definitely in the cards, and I think it'll be bigger the lower the opening weekend is.

I'm going to say it opens at $68 million.

So in your opinion would it be better for the total box office in the long run for the movie to open at 65 million instead of say 80 million? Why would the multiplier be higher if it has a lower opening weekend? Wouldn't that mean there is less good word of mouth because less people have seen it?

I think the audience going to see Angels and Demons will be more likely to go see Trek if the former is sold out.

X-Men fans I'm not too sure about.

for Borg:

just a guess: how many multiples of the opening weekend haul it's worth in the end?

so, say, it opens at 90 million -- with a 3 multiplier, it ends up with a gross domestic of 270 million.
