Official Fearfull Symmetry blurb (Warpath spoilers)

"Second Skin" establishes that Iliana Ghemor was surgically altered to look like Kira...
Well, actually, no. It established that Kira was surgically altered to look like Iliana Ghemor. That the reverse was true was never established until the DS9 relaunch.

I think this is the first DS9 Relaunch book description that doesn`t leave me with the feeling "Wow. I can`t wait to read this!"

I will get the book but I am not even sure yet if I will start reading it immediately when I get it.

Same here. Well, actually I've read the first two or three chapters. I cannot get into it at all - there's nothing wrong with the writing, and the plot seems interesting enough, but it just isn't sparking anything that's making me want to go "next page!"

Keep going! It's worth it. The book starts out quietly, but before long the sense of impending doom and the building suspense should keep you turning those pages.

Well, actually, no. It established that Kira was surgically altered to look like Iliana Ghemor. That the reverse was true was never established until the DS9 relaunch.
It established more than that: that Iliana was an undercover agent sent to Bajor to infiltrate the Bajoran resistance and that she looked a lot like Kira Nerys and that she hadn't yet come home as of "Second Skin." And, for that matter, that the Obsidian Order has a Kira Nerys corpse lying around, though that could've been manufactured for the deception. Tekeny Ghemor was a high-ranking member of Central Command; he wouldn't have been fooled by Entek's deception in "Second Skin" if at least part of it wasn't true.

As others have stated, the DS9 relaunch has lost some of its steam. The inconsistent publishing of new stories in this series (particularly over the last couple of years) has worn me out. But I'm hoping that, if I pick up the re-launch and re-read the entire thing again, it might rejuvinate things and I'll be more excited and eager to read "Fearful Symmetry".

after reading a thread on another board i realized things could be worse. i could be a voyager fan, yeah that's worse already, but i could be a voyager fan waiting for the next relaunch book. :)

:vulcan: I'm wondering how this story will tell the back story of Illiana Gamor from the ru and the Mu Illiana and Kira this story sounds like it's going to take alot of twists and turns with the story just like War Path did.

^^Presumably that's the reason for the "flip book" format, telling two parallel, interlocking narratives separately from one another.

The inescapable question becomes at this point... after June, when will the *next* Relaunch book be seen? If I have to wait another year or two... :(

I know the characters will be seen in a timeline a few years ahead in Destiny... and maybe that'll hold me over... but still. I'm not sure I can hold up for another lengthy delay. I'm looking forward to Fearful Symmetry quite a bit, if not the gimmicky format, and hope it lives up to the anticipation.

(For the record, I know it wasn't supposed to be 2 years... but it was. A year or 18 months even seems like a terribly long wait..)

I second that! More DS9 books!

Personally, I'll be happy as long as we know another book is definitely coming out. I won't really get mad until we start pushing the 5-10 year mark.

^ No, the MU anthology, Shards and Shadows, was pushed back to January 2009.

BOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry KRAD, I know it wasn't your fault. Just had to get that out of my system. Been looking forward to the new MU anthologies. :)

^^Well, it's a "that," not a "those," since it's one volume. And it will be in trade paperback format. Convenient or not, that's become a popular, well-selling format, which is why there's been an increase in Trek TPBs in recent years.

In that case, I'm going to need another bookshelf.

^ I feel ya there. I already need a new bookshelf and I'm not even caught up on the most recent releases. My last new book was Forged In Fire and if they're gonna start publishing more and more in TPB than it will a pain to make room.

The only positive is that TPB's are usually a lot chunkier than MMPB.

I'm afraid I'll pass, then. For some reason, I don't seem to enjoy reading fiction in that size very much. I suspect the generally large print size is an issue.

Yeah, but with no Relaunch on the 2009 list thus far, we're possibly looking at 2010? That's a potential two year gap again. :(

In fact, no Ds9 at all, save for possibly having some tie-in to A Singular Destiny for 2009 so far. Sadness.

Less than half of the 2009 schedule is out so far. There's no reason at all to assume the remaining seven months won't see a new DS9 book, especially since a year (minimum) between installments is pretty standard and Fearful Symmetry is a July 2008 book. Give it time; I'm sure there'll be new DS9 in 2009.
