Official Fearfull Symmetry blurb (Warpath spoilers)

Every now and then I check the official S&S Star Trek book page, and today I was lucky enough to stumble across the official blurb for FS, so I thought I'd go ahead and share it for you guys. FYI this does contain some pretty big spoilers for Warpath, so if you don't want to know how it ended I'd recommend you stop reading now.

In our universe, a Cardassian sleeper agent--Iliana Ghemor--was once surgically altered to resemble and replace resistance fighter Kira Nerys, future Starfleet captain and hero of the planet Bajor's liberation. That plan never reached fruition, and the fate of the agent remained unknown...until now.
Robbed of the past sixteen years, Iliana Ghemor is back with a vengeance. Over a decade and a half of imprisonment and abuse by her former masters has brought her to the brink of madness, sustained only by the twisted belief that she is, in fact, the real Kira Nerys. She has already made one near-successful attempt on the real Kira's life, but instead of assuming the identity of the woman she was intended to replace, Ghemor has set her sights on the most unexpected target of all: Kira's other double, the malicious Intendent, Bajor's iron-fisted ruler in the alternate reality commonly known as the "Mirror Universe." But far more is unfolding in the Mirror Universe than Ghemor realizes, and the heroes of Deep Space Nine somehow must stop the false Kira without derailing the delicate flow of history that must unfold if both universes, and countless others, are to survive.
Parallel stories set in both universes reflect and build upon each other in this Two-in-One "Flip Book," the continuation of both the ongoing DS9 saga as well as the Mirror Universe line of books.
They also rereleased the cover. It's pretty much the same as the one that was released before, only the name of the author has been changed.

Shinzon, Lore, Thomas Riker, Sela, Illiana Ghemor, so many evil twins, so little time....

So, will we be getting the new MU anthology before Fearful Symmetry comes out?

^ No, the MU anthology, Shards and Shadows, was pushed back to January 2009.

For some reason, I'm really not as excited as I feel I should be for this book. Not sure why, although it does seem overcomplicated.

I can't wait for this. Second Skin is one of my favorite Trek episodes so any kind of sequel is very welcome.

I'm torn on this, I've liked the DS9 relaunch books, but I hate the modern mirror universe concept with a passion.

I'm not either. It feels like I ought to be excited for it, though, and I'm certainly glad that a new relaunch book is coming out. Somehow, the series lost its steam for me during the lengthy Worlds of Deep Space Nine phase. That we've had only one book in the three years since probably hasn't helped (especially after 4-per-year schedule which characterized the first three years of the relaunch). I think I'd be happy with two new books per year, but am not likely to regain interest with only one, strange as that is.

I have to admit, I'm a little scared about this book. I didn't really care for the ending of Warpath and how it threw in this third Kira but I do find the idea of the twin stories fascinating. I'll pick it up and see how it goes.

The idea of a 'third' Kira Nerys is not something that was thrown in at the last minute. "Second Skin" establishes that Iliana Ghemor was surgically altered to look like Kira, and now we learn that she's been held against her will, driven insane, and believes she's the only Kira Nerys...wow! That's a total Jason Bourne moment right there...very rad! So, going back to the original point, there's Captain Kira, Intendant Kira (who's dead), and Iliana Ghemor as a doppelganger Kira Nerys. And then there's the 'Cardassian Woman' who is the Mirror Universe counterpart to Iliana Ghemor.

As for the official blurb...wow! I definitely have some theories as to what could possibly happen, and now I have to go back to "Warpath" again, and read Kira's story at Parek Tonn once more...there are some key hints in the FS blurb that could possibly shed even more light into the evolution of Kira's character, the relationship between her and the Prophets, and the Celestial Temple as a whole...

Then regarding the Mirror Universe...that's a story I am very excited for as well. What the heck could possibly be going on that not even Iliana Ghemor failed to realize? Hmmm...definitely things to ponder here too.

I can't wait for Fearful Symmetry.

P.S: Iliana Ghemor's first appearance wasn't the end of 'Warpath'. She played a role akin to that of Sela's role in "The Mind's Eye". You don't realize it's her until after the fact.

Ah, but you forget, There Can Be Only One!

The idea of a 'third' Kira Nerys is not something that was thrown in at the last minute.

I don't mean to imply that it was thrown in at the last minute. There was that incident on Bajor in the Worlds of Deep Space Nine books that had happened quite awhile before this story. I used 'threw' as a colorful verb; I didn't really think of it falling into that conotation. Also, by mentioning in the 'end' of the book I was referring to the moment of revelation. Looking back though, it might have been in the third quarter. Or at the halfway point. (I think it's these sort of miscommunications that cause intergalactic wars to break out.)

Still, I wasn't that fond of that particular plot twist. I'm pretty happy with the rest of the DS9 Relaunch saga though so I'm staying on board.

i didn't find out about DS9R until a big chunk of it was already published. i caught up with everything around the time Worlds of DS9 was coming out. since then i've had to wait over a year for Warpath and 2 years for the new book. so yeah, going from reading them as fast as i wanted to, to waiting a year or more for the next one, of course the series is going to lose a bit of steam for me.

i'm looking forward to the book and will buy it the day i see it but at the same time i don't have the sense of anticipation as i thought i would have.

then again, at one point i was really looking forward to the Terok Nor trilogy and even though i bought the first book, i still haven't started reading it. i've been reading older trek books right now. I'm about to finish Brothers Keeper, book one, later on.

Same here. Well, actually I've read the first two or three chapters. I cannot get into it at all - there's nothing wrong with the writing, and the plot seems interesting enough, but it just isn't sparking anything that's making me want to go "next page!" I imagine this is probably contributing to my lack of interest in Fearful Symmetry as well.
