Offended by Christmas???

^^ Unless you really are that thick I'm talking about the fact that this isn't at all a new issue and that I've spoken with many people over the years about it.

So, you've been dealing with this "issue" for years and haven't done anything about it? You haven't traded days with anyone or asked them to cover for you? You haven't told your boss that you always have to work this time of year so it would only be fair that you get some more time off? You haven't built up seniority over other employees? You haven't tried for a promotion to a higher level position where you can get more say in scheduling? You haven't tried to get a more flexible job?

At what point does this stop being the fault of society for not venerating the Christmas holiday (or really, the day after Christmas) to your satisfaction and becomes your fault for not taking any initiative to change these ongoing holiday problems of yours?
Where I work you can't trade with anyone. Everyone is on hand to work Boxing Day so who can you trade with? Yes, I've had to put up with this for some years because it isn't always possible to immediately change things to your liking. I can't afford to just quit and I'm just going to take any other kind of job, likely with less pay? No? Besides which I'm not just expressing my own frustration and viewpoint but also those of fellow coworkers and people in similar positions throughout the province.

Again if you live in the States then you likely don't get it. But I grew up and worked at a time when things were better (in this regard). Then the government allowed business to take the holiday away and so here we are.

From now on, I'm outsourcing all my arguments to Locutus. He's cheaper, does a bang-up job, and can save me a lot of time so I can get back to work on my Latin to English translator monkey project.
Keep me in the loop about that. I could use a couple of your monkeys when they are finally operational.

Your arguments and constant gorilla warfare are driving me bananas.

I'd come in swinging here, but i'm afraid you'd think I was aping your behaviour.

I'm Jewish, and find all the Christmas stuff rather annoying, e.g. Christian religious songs playing over loudspeakers in stores. It's nicer when there is some acknowledgement of the fact that not everyone is a Christian, either by including some Chanukah stuff or by using the more general "Happy Holidays".

I celebrate Christmas and I find holiday music on loudspeakers all month annoying. Some Christmas music is nice - and frankly, musically some of the older religious stuff is the best musical quality - but a little goes a long way.

Same. I don't mind Christmas music, but the fact that it starts playing so early combined with most of it being so cheesy gets grating fast.

Very true.

Will do.

Oh, and here's a simple tip: You should wrap all of your furniture in plastic. Possibly your walls, carpet and ceiling as well.

Do people do that in the USA? I think the only other holiday I've ever heard people wishing me a happy of whatever day except Christmas is New Year.
No, just kidding. As HoHo said, the only one that people say is "Happy Halloween."

Yeah, but when Grape Day rolls around you are all over it.

Bummer that you get the day that's on September 11th though.
Just my luck. :( I'll have to appeal to Congress to get it moved.

Maybe to December 25th.

I'm glad I went through this entire Christmas season without ever ONCE hearing "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer". I advocate that whoever wrote that song should suffer some kind of penalty, such as death.

And it does not matter whether you use the phrase "going bananas" or "going apeshit". Because in a very real sense, bananas ARE apeshit. Think about it...

You guys are all crazy. I love Christmas music and listen to it from Thanksgiving till New Year's. Even the older religious ones ... they're so beautiful I don't care if I'm not Christian.

I've just read the 6-8 pages since my last post on it.....

and they say we're a weird mob?.... good gravy!

ETA: The ONLY people allowed to b*tch about Christmas Carols, are retail staff ...after the 6th time through the same cd of Carols in 1 shift... even the cheeriest of us want to curl up in the foetal position in the corner of the store and suck out thumbs.

Besides all of the rest of the drama in the thread with some posters thinking that children should be struck more, does the complaint really come down the fact that one person doesn't like how other people act and wants to control how they act in accordance with his own wishes?

Sounds fascist to me.

^^ The sad truth is that people in positions of influence are making such decisions all the time and many folks get stuck with decisions they had no say in whatsoever.
