Odo observation

Six of Twelve

Captain
Captain
I was watching some first season episodes last night and noticed that Odo's voice is very different than in subsequent seasons. It didn't have any of that gravelly quality that we typically associate with him.

I wonder what's up with that? Did he simply take awhile to develop his Odo voice, or did the actor have a health issue that affected his speaking voice?

I saw him in the 2000 movie, The Patriot, using the gravelly voice, so it makes me wonder.

The only time I noticed Odo's voice being different was in A Man Alone. I wonder if it was the make up that affected out he talked. That was some heavy make up.

Noticed that too. His makeup is odd as well on those first few episodes. There's always a learning curve at the beginning of television shows where everyone seems to be getting used to how they want to portray their characters in the long term.

Rom's voice was also very different in his first appearance on one of the earlier episodes. He was more crafty and sinister, and not the idiot he later grew to be, starting with The Grand Nagus, I think.

Dax as well, in the early weeks, was not the carouser Curzon had been. She later let her hair down, though I am not sure it was character development but a retcon.

I remember reading somewhere that Rom's voice was affected by changes in the makeup, particularly by the nose piece he had to wear.
