Oddball Props

Speaking of TOS props, anyone ever get a good look at the flip-top communicators used by the Klingons, etc.? (link to pic)

The interior is visible for about two or three frames in "Elaan of Troyius." But Greg Jein has the original prop, so we know what the interior looks like. Here's a shot of it on display at Worldcon in L.A. in 2009. Note the cool cut out symbol on the lid:

Cut out could be just for the lid to clear the two knobs when closing (?)

The Eminians also had a flip-top communicator that looks a lot like this one, Spock jury-rigs one to contact the Enterprise in A Taste of Armageddon.

The sound effects for that communicator clinking open of shut sounded like someone dropped a pipe on steel plate.
