Welcome to the 207th Fan Art Forum challenge! This October the theme is Pre-warp History:

Show us what you think life for an existing alien species was like some time before they developed warp-drive. For example, what was the Vulcan equivalent of the Model-T Ford, who was the first Andorian to circumnavigate their planet, just what did planet-bound Klingon warfare look like before the advent of their battlecruisers, or how do you imagine the Ferengi version of the middle ages to have looked like?

The Rules
  • the artwork you submit should be created during the month of the challenge
  • only one final image can be submitted (although it may contain multiple views)
  • your final entry should be posted in this thread (although dedicated WIP threads are appreciated)
The winner gets to sport the “Art Challenge Winner” banner below their name for the following month and has the honor of hosting November's challenge. Be sure to help decide what the theme for next month's contest will be here.

You have until Monday, October 31st to post your final entry in this thread. If you have any questions or if you need more time, just let us know in this thread. :)

Good luck and have fun! I'm looking forward to your ideas!

Ahoi,
so here my entry. Its some Andorian (made up) lore presented in the style of educational material like one might find it in a museum.

If anybody has suggestions how to improve the text please let me know since I cant tell if this is proper english. (for example I dont know if there is a specific expression for an ocean under a sheet of ice...so I just went with sub surface.)

I love this, @MisterD. Not a native speaker myself, but this reads pretty well to me. Maybe just turn the full stop after “public” into a comma. Would make more sense with the “Despite …” in the beginning of the paragraph.

As for the art itself … lovely design, and makes a ton of sense that the Andorians' exploration of their icy ocean depths would have been an important milestone.

Thank you. I will fix it. Also I just noticed that Wholmat kind of sounds like Walmart...and now I can't unsee it. :sigh:

Maybe consider this wording?
"The Whlomat's construction was a milestone for the Andorians to becoming a warp-capable spacefaring civilization even though it was perceived as a failure after it was destroyed in an accident only months into its service."

@MisterD
Wich should be which, subsurface is one word.
I would have a title above the blurb, then paragraph one, then paragraph two:

Whlomat - Andorian Submersible
---------------------------------------
Pathfinding vessel the began the era of exploration...

Lost in an accident three months...

Hey...
first off all a big "thank you" to everybody who tried to help out with the text. In the end I dropped the idea because there was not enough space after changing the layout of the scene. (and also I had zero confidence to get it done without making mistakes sooo...)

So here the real entry for the challenge:

Seriously *love* all your submissions so far. Will be tough to pick a favorite.

I probably won't get around to posting the voting thread tonight. So if there's still someone working on an entry you have some more time until tomorrow. :)
