Oceanic 6 Question.. Season 3 and 4 SPOILERS

Nardpuncher

Rear Admiral
I just saw the season 3 finale...and Jack is drunk at the hospital, he then tells the other doctor to go upstairs and get his father down here and see if his father is drunker than he is. If this is supposed to in the near future shouldn't Jack's father be dead?
Note that i haven't seen any season 4 over here in Taiwan yet.

Unless you want to be spoiled, the answer is to wait and watch Season 4 (although we technically haven't gotten a concrete answer over here, just hints). Jack's dad should technically be dead, but that hasn't stopped him from showing up before.

I've heard this topic many times on different blogs and magazine articles. Is it possible Jack was just being sarcastic?

While watching the episode I got the impression that Jack was basically going crazy because of all of the drinking and drugs. The doctor who he is yelling at certainly looks at him like he's crazy.

Well I won't say anything that I didn't say right after the S3 finale...

I think Jack's comment about his dad was a big fat honkin' clue that dad is still alive, in some sense.

My theory (and it has yet to be definitely contradicted, not that Lost ever does anything "definitively" ;)) is that Jack & the others in the Six left the Island and rejoined a different but very similar reality to the one they originally left...where small details like dead relatives might be different...the Island is a nexus between multiple realities. Homer Simpson might have considered a reality where his family ate their dinner with long prehensile reptile tongues to be "close enough" but Jack is pickier, which is why he and Kate and the other four have to go back to the Island - and rejoin the reality they originally came from.

Or he could be a ghost, clone, hallucination, long-lost evil twin, etc etc.

or he just may be going crazy... :) (although occam usually fails at lost...)

Given recent events I'd say Jack, by that point, is seeing his father around different places, probably even spoken to him a couple of times, and in Jack's drunken state he slips and mentions him.

I have always understood that scene as him just acting crazy as a reaction to all of the drugs and alcohol he had consumed. If I recall, the doctor looked pretty shocked he had said that. My interpretation of that shock has always been that he was shocked he would say something about his dead father.

I think that's part of the reason he was so forgiving when it was obvious Jack was unable to practice anymore. He just realized that Jack was messed up from all of the insane things he had been through. (plane crash, surviving on a "deserted island", etc)

Yep. We saw that two episodes ago, when Jack gets another doc at the hospital to write him a 'script.

I think he has seen his father so many times by that point he no longer knows himself wether he is alive or dead, plus hes probably crazier than Hurley by then.

Spookily enough a woman on the radio just said Liz Hurley while I was typing Hurley just then.
