O'Brien out, Leno back in?

But it isn't like the Lampoon staff stole it and destroyed it...the article clearly states that the police had them return the papers to the Crimson. I doubt that they'd have gone as far as to actually destroy the papers. It was a prank, not a sabotage attempt...
I suppose it depends when (or if) they were planning to return them.

I would expect (and I know I'm just assuming here) that Harvard would be much more likely to crack down and expel people over a situation like that if they were planning to destroy the papers...but that would take more malicious intent that seems to be the case in what I've read of the history of the pranks...they might be embarassing or annoying or obnoxious, but I've not seen evidence that they would go to that extreme of a degree.

It would be like kidnapping the mascot of a rival school before the Homecoming game...then displaying its severed head on a pike during the halftime show...

Well, Conan himself said the pranks degenerated - his word - to the point where they stole a run of the paper, so it sounds like he thinks they went over the line.

You know what would be great...if O'Brien is picked to host the Emmys this August. He's got the experience.

Oh, and the Emmys are being broadcast on NBC. Everyone wins.

I wonder what degree of input the broadcasting network has on the host selection? Because unless NBC could find some way to derail it, the Emmy folks would be silly to NOT pick Conan...he's experienced, his hosting gig got great reviews...even without all the late night controversy, he'd be a great pick...

^^^Being in college doesn't give you the right to harass people. As for that making me "uptight" or "puritanical": baloney. I'm fine with adults doing whatever makes them happy as long as all affected parties are consenting.

Treating people with "respect" has nothing to do with age, buddy.
Then you were never a teenager then?

Apparently not the kind of others on this board... *shrugs*

I stand by my opinion. Conan deserved to pay for the lost papers and at the very least serve some major community service hours for the sex ad.

I am surprised you haven't stated he should also have been placed in a Medieval Stockade, beaten with a Cat 'O Nine Tales, and then keelhauled.

Seems that the game of chicken between NBC/Zucker and Team Conan is intensifying:

The latest from Deadline Hollywood:

I can confirm that Team Conan reassembled in Los Angeles last night, and O'Brien's reps are still "figuring out how to settle" but at the same time still lobbying NBCU chief Jeff Zucker to keep Conan as host of The Tonight Show. Their negotiations continued with NBC. Unlike the network which wants a resolution by end of today, the agents-lawyers-managers are in no hurry to accept what NBC is offering to end this late night crisis and the resulting PR nightmare. Team Conan is banking on it getting worse, not better, with every passing hour and day as the media and public stay obsessed with the network vs Tonight Show host story and all its drama. "This will get off the front pages," NBC Universal chief Jeff Zucker predicted to Team Conan. "You are 100% wrong," one of O'Brien's reps shot back. Stay tuned.

Well, I'm sure something will be resolved before the Winter Olympics.

Yeah, I don't think NBC will want all this to trump their Olympics coverage...no one would be paying attention to it but rather they'd be looking beyond it, speculating on everything...

I'd be surprised if this isn't resolved by the end of next week at the latest...

Time is definitely on the side of Team Conan in this...the longer they drag it out, the worse and worse NBC looks and the more desperate they will most likely get. I bet this is the real motivation between their insistence on trying to find a solution that leaves Conan at The Tonight Show at 11:35. They know that NBC won't settle for that...like I said, a massive game of chicken.

And I bet NBC will blink...

As much as I'd like the euphoria of an unlikely Conan triumph, the better option for Conan is for him to leave with a HUGE payday (as is a possibility now according to reports) and then signing a similarly large contract for FOX at 11pm. I'd love to watch Conan's monologue and bits at 11. Hopefully they will let him be more 'late night' Conan. Bring back the bear!!! He'll get a huuuge amount of cash and big buzz to start a new show.

I don't think they will. It's more likely O'Brien will be out.

Oh, I agree...I think that the chances that NBC will keep him are less than nothing...to me, it seems that NBC is trying to get him to just walk away rather than the network firing him or letting him out of his contract so that they don't have to pay the penalty to Conan. And his team is trying to outlast them to force them to fire him and pay that penalty...

Eh, what's the rush? The longer Conan can keep this game of chicken going, the better for him and the worse for NBC. The odds of NBC blinking and keeping him on as host of The Tonight Show increase as long as this fight keeps going on, and if it fails, well, hey, he'll walk away with a nice payoff anyway, so it's not like he loses anything by not settling it all earlier.

Yeah, but it's sounding like a move to Fox is FAR from a sure thing. The affiliates don't appear to be all that crazy about the idea.

Conan might have better luck on cable.

Scenerio: Letterman retires by 2013, with no replacement groomed. Who would take over, Craig Kilbourn? That stupd Brit from "The Drew Carey Show"?

1. Mr Scott should certainly recognize its actually "that stupid Scott from the Drew Carey Show"

2. That Scott is my favorite of all the late nite hosts.

Oh, right. I see what you're saying. Yeah, that I agree with.
