Obligatory Shore Leave Thread

I'll be there, too; I just got my invite over the weekend.

Not that there was ever any doubt that I would be at Shore Leave. But it's nice to be noticed. ;)

I'm really hoping I can make it down to Shore Leave this year. I haven't been for years and would love to get back there. Greg, I can't wait to read your Final Crisis novel, and would be very interested to hear about your process for working on it. Any chance you'll get to do Blackest Night?

No immediate plans for a Blackest Night novel, alas, although I'd jump at the chance to do zombie superheroes.

I had fun writing Final Night, though I mean, how often do you get to write a battle to death between Wonder Woman and Frankenstein? Among other things.

I'll be curious to find out what people think of the novelization.

I'm really looking forward to reading it (hopefully I can score a copy from someone here at DC Licensing!) - upon rereading FC in one go, it hangs together a bit more solidly than I had originally thought, but it will be nice to have the strictures on the story which a novel imposes out of necessity. Were you able to include the Superman Beyond side story as well?

Not really. After a bit of soul-searching, I decided that SUPERMAN BEYOND was kind of its own thing, so I did some nipping and tucking to skip over most of it. This meant, among other things, finding a different way to foreshadow the appearance of Mandrakk at the end. And finding a slightly more convenient way to heal Lois.

Besides, I couldn't figure out how to write in 3-D! :)

Makes sense. Read in its place within the collection (and hey, I just got my comp copy of the Final Crisis TPB today!), it does kind of feel like the story wanders off in an entirely new direction, but the whole book sort of does that anyway, in that weird, Morrison-ish (Morrisonian?) way. I look forward to seeing what you've come up with - I'm still full of admiration for the way you worked around entire plotlines in the 52 novel (like the Dibnys, for example), such that I didn't immediately realize they were gone.

As to writing in 3D, it's the same as normal writing, but you have to wear special glasses!

You have a copy of FINAL CRISIS already? I'm jealous. I haven't seen one yet!

Edit: Wait. Do you mean the novelization or the original graphic novel? I think I may have misunderstood you.

No no no no, not the novelization (I wish). I meant the trade paperback version of the original graphic novel. We get our comps every week, and the FC trade was in last week's bundle.

Sorry for the confusion! :)

No problem. My mistake! I got excited for a moment, then figured out what you meant.

Here's hoping the novelization is out in time for Shore Leave. (Or at least the mass-market edition of INFINITE CRISIS.)

*sigh* Shore Leave may have updated the Author's page, but no one's bothered to go through and tell me who's featured in what, like in year's past.

Now I'll have to dig through my stacks and try to find something that isn't already autographed. Whee... that'll take a whole weekend...

If it makes things easier for you, I plan on having copies of the comic shop-exclusive edition (with the variant cover) of the latest issue of Star Trek Magazine with me at Meet-the-Pros, and there's a fair few of us (Dayton, Kevin, Greg, Christopher, myself, probably forgetting someone) who will be there that have articles in the issue. :)

I imagine that many of us will be available to sign the SEVEN DEADLY SINS anthology, along with our assorted solo projects.

Thought I'd revive this thread to point out that a tentative schedule has been posted at shore-leave.com.

At the moment, I'm scheduled for three panels, on superheroes, time travel, and The 4400, plus the epic mass autographing session Friday night.

Two weeks and counting . . . .

In addition to Meet the Pros on Friday night, I'm on the unofficial, author-organized version of the Pocket Books Preview panel on Saturday at 1 PM (with Dayton Ward, Scott Pearson, and special guest star Marco Palmieri), the Time Travel panel at 10 AM Sunday (with Greg, Ann Crispin, and David Mack), and the Myriad Universes panel at 1 PM Sunday (with KRAD, Scott, and Marco).

Hmm... 10 in the morning on Sunday. What a great time to discuss such a heady, intellectually challenging topic as time travel. :wtf: I'm not sure the panelists will be awake enough, let alone the audience.
