Obligatory Shore Leave Thread

I recommend buying the Shore Leave badge (whichever one you want) ahead of time so you don't have to stand in line. If you're just coming Saturday for the day, get there EARLY. Even earlier than you think is too early. With the media guest line-up they have, they'll probably sell out of at-the-door day passes within an hour of opening registration at 9am. I've seen it happen before. If you can come by on Friday night, even better.

Shore Leave badges can't be purchased online (yeah, I know) but the mail-in form and all the details can be found here. Pre-reg cut-off is June 15. Prices will be higher at the door. The con hotel is sold out, of course (but they suck there anyhow) but there are lots of other hotels in the area.

Oh, and bring your cash with you. There's an ATM in the hotel, but I guarantee you it will be broken or empty by noon on Saturday.

I'll be missing it this year for the first time in 5-6 years. Bummed about it, but I haven't heard back from the writer liaision about guest options and I'm not feeling the expenses for a weekend of hanging out at the bar. :)

Planning to be there next year, though, hopefully with a couple non-Trek publishing surprises. We'll see how the rest of the year goes.

I am sooo tempted to try and get out there... so very very tempted... But I've never traveled alone, and I just took three months medical leave from work and don't want to miss more so soon.

Hi everybody! (Hi Dr. Nick!)

And I return just in time to post the obligatory Shore Leave thread. I will be there, of course. This is my 11th Shore Leave. Looking forward to the temporary carpet blindness at the Marriott. (For the record, I'm staying around the corner at the Comfort Inn, which was a Hampton Inn last year.)

So... who else will be there? :techman:

Karen

My husband and I not writers, but your post alerted us to the Comfort Inn. We are usually at the Embassy Suites, but the Comfort Inn's prices are much lower. While it doesn't have a pool (who has time to use it), it does have free internet. Also, for Starfleet members (we're from the USS Justice) there is a business discount, you need the code that's on the SFI website and must show your card at check-in. For those not in SFI, you get the same discount if you're a AAA member.

I have to be there myself since I'm on the committee running the Video Room, and my book will be available for sale through a dealer's table of a friend of mines' wife, and possibly StarBase Atlanta if Herb can get back in touch with me ASAP to place the order. Also will be selling it at the Art Show this year.
The title is "A sketchbook of the Inventive mind" By christiaan Cornelis Schildt $20 USD through E-store direct page, and just a week before Shore Leave it will be available on Amazon.com so as D.Edward Vogel says at the Bengies"Bring your wallet, and buy again, and again"
See ya all at Shore Leave

^And I'm on that list. I'm planning to be there as usual. I don't have any new Trek fiction out since last year, but I'm trying to arrange for the Borders table to have some copies of the Analog issue containing my story "The Hub of the Matter."

And I'm hoping my FINAL CRISIS novelization will be on sale in time for the con, and maybe the GREEN HORNET anthology as well.

Does anybody have contact for the guy/manager/CSM from Borders who's always there (I keep blanking on his name)?

Nice, I'd love to pick that up. Do authors sign at individual tables? How's that work?

Looking forward to being there.

The area outside the Hunt/Valley rooms is wide enough that they're able to line both sides with tables running the length of the hallway, so it's basically a gauntlet/death march/Klingon pain stick ceremony kind of thing. Anybody who makes it to the end of the passageway gets an autograph from Peter David.

Seriously, Friday night is the big autographing night, with all the authors in one place for a couple of hours. The books remain on sale for the rest of the weekend, though, and it's not too hard to snag one of us between panels.

I'm really hoping I can make it down to Shore Leave this year. I haven't been for years and would love to get back there. Greg, I can't wait to read your Final Crisis novel, and would be very interested to hear about your process for working on it. Any chance you'll get to do Blackest Night?

And BuckRogers, you really should try and get a plug in somewhere for your book. How are we going to know about it if you don't mention it? :p
