I'm really looking forward to reading it (hopefully I can score a copy from someone here at DC Licensing!) - upon rereading FC in one go, it hangs together a bit more solidly than I had originally thought, but it will be nice to have the strictures on the story which a novel imposes out of necessity. Were you able to include the Superman Beyond side story as well?
Not really. After a bit of soul-searching, I decided that SUPERMAN BEYOND was kind of its own thing, so I did some nipping and tucking to skip over most of it. This meant, among other things, finding a different way to foreshadow the appearance of Mandrakk at the end. And finding a slightly more convenient way to heal Lois.
Besides, I couldn't figure out how to write in 3-D!
Makes sense. Read in its place within the collection (and hey, I just got my comp copy of the
Final Crisis TPB today!), it does kind of feel like the story wanders off in an entirely new direction, but the whole book sort of does that anyway, in that weird, Morrison-ish (Morrisonian?) way. I look forward to seeing what you've come up with - I'm still full of admiration for the way you worked around entire plotlines in the
52 novel (like the Dibnys, for example), such that I didn't immediately realize they were gone.
As to writing in 3D, it's the same as normal writing, but you have to wear special glasses!
