Spoilers 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' series [Spoiler Discussion]

The movie had this dialogue about how Palpatine returned:

AFTAB ACKBAR: It cannot be. The Emperor is dead.
BEAUMONT: Dark science. Cloning. Secrets only the Sith knew.
sounds like he’s just guessing to me.

In terms of moviemaking "language," I think it's one of those lines of expository dialogue that we as the audience are meant to accept at face value rather than questioning its veracity or credibility.
like 99% of what Abrams writes.

I wouldn't be surprised if the no subtitle comic series covered the creation of Luke's green bladed lightsaber once they go closer to Return of the Jedi.
In Shadows of the Empire, Luke creates an artificial gem using a carbon press Obi Wan had or that he brought to Ben's hut. Legends doesn't require a kyber crystal, any type of gemstone related to diamonds (ex, Corusca gem in the Jedi Academy trilogy) that can handle the energy of a lightsaber can be used.
While TCW indicates that kybers are the primary source of lightsaber gems, it doesn't exclude the potential use of substitutes when kybers are hard to come by.
It's also possible Ben left a secret stash for Luke to find. Otherwise how would he know how to build a lightsaber?

In the new canon only Kyber crystals can be used, (so far). Even Sith/Dark Side sabers use Kyber.
Doesn't preclude = "canon" can (and does) change to allow it in the future.
And as much as I love TCW, I don't (personally) consider it to be the same level of canon as the live action films and shows.

And honestly, I like that the kyber provides more of a source of mysticism surrounding lightsaber construction, and show why they can't really be replicated by non-force users, or mass produced. All much better than being able to just jam any old gem in there like it's nothing.
Plus the added wrinkle of the way the Sith bleed their crystals feels doubly appropriate. "It's red because it's synthetic" was always such a boring approach.

Rumor is that Christophsis was also a source of kyber crystals, much like Illum was. If Starkiller Base was in fact the planet formerly known as Illum, well that sounds like something Palpatine would do. Use not only the crystals used by the Jedi, but one of their planets as a weapon used to kill people and terrorize the galaxy.

It's not a rumour. It's literally stated to have kyber crystals in at least one of the Rogue One tie-in novels and maybe one or two others.
Kyber is rare, but not THAT rare. It's found on many planets (rule of thumb: if a planet has, or has ever had a Jedi temple on it, there's probably kyber there too.) Mostly the problem is that to non-force sensitives, natural, dormant kyber seems fairly unremarkable, and thus can be hard to distinguish from common minerals, even ice.

And Starkiller has very much already been confirmed as being Ilum. Yes, mostly to make use of the massive kyber deposits all through the crust.

As for other uses of kyber; again, it's already been said (by Yoda in the Utapau arc) that in the distant past, giant kybers were often at the heart of many super-weapons and engines of destruction (like for example, the Malachor Sith Temple/Battle Station.)

A deleted scene from ROTJ showed Luke putting the finishing touches on his green saber and activating the blade, in a cavern on Tatooine. I would have liked seeing that in the movie, but I'm not sure that even more details on how he came by the parts, designed and constructed the saber, etc., would really add much. We already know from Vader's reaction that it was quite an accomplishment.

The scene was filmed and can be seen online. Honestly it doesn’t add much and it kinda ruins the new lightsaber reveal afterwards. Not to mention it went together with a really hokey scene of darth Vader mentally reaching out to him.

I also like the idea behind kyber crystals because I feel like it can serve to illustrate another difference between Jedi and Sith. (As far as I know, nothing about this is in the official lore, it's just something I've thought up on my own that I think fits.) Every Sith lightsaber is red because they dominate and harm kyber crystals; they seek to control and impose their will upon everything. Jedi lightsabers can be just about any color because they forge a spiritual bond with willing crystals; they're open-minded and willing to embrace diversity.

Personally I prefer George Lucas' reasoning for lightsaber colors - "Good guys are blue and green. Bad guys are red. That's just the way it is. Oh, and Sam Jackson, you can have purple."

I hope at some point Star Wars steers away from the colors having meaning and assignments. I wouldn't mind seeing a future villain wielding a dark-blue saber, or orange. Just to switch things up at this point.

Technically, a villain had a blue saber once.

As long as we're talking lightsaber varieties, we've seen at least one saber with a curved blade, the Darksaber. I'd like to see some with really weird shapes. Maybe a zig-zag, or even branches, like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven-Branched_Sword
