News Obi-Wan Kenobi series premiering on May 27

While the idea of an Obi-Wan series doesn't really do anything for me, after seeing the episodes of The Mandalorian she's directed I think it's probably in good hands with Deborah Chow. Actually, could she just do The Mandalorian and have someone else take on Obi-Wan? :)

I just wonder where all these great behind-the-camera folks are at when CBS is hiring for their All-Access shows? Outside of Jordan Peele, we seem to get the cheap scraps.

Direction and cinematography of Disco has been excellent, best every IMHO for a Star Trek series. Picard has Chabon. Strange Angel also was a great looking and great acted series. I thought Twilight Zone was a mixed affair, although superior to anything not devised by Serling, although to be fair, that's not saying much. Not sure what there is to complain about compared to Disney+.

I've often been a bit shocked at how few big names we see involved in Trek. I constantly see fairly big name celebrities talking about being life long Trekkies, and how much they love it, but very few of them have actually gotten involved with the franchise in front of or behind the camera.

Hayden Christensen Reportedly Returning As Anakin In Obi-Wan Show

According to sources close to WGTC – the same ones who told us a Rey spinoff [1] is in the works, which trusted insider [2] Daniel RPK seems to have corroborated and backed us up on, and that Marvel is eyeing Daniel Radcliffe for Moon Knight – Christensen will cameo in the aforementioned show at some point. The exact context of his cameo is unclear, but it’s said to be a flashback to before he turned to the Dark Side [3].

[1] What?
[2] LOL
[3] OK, I like that idea.

*sigh*

We Got This Covered.

We'll see. But I'm not holding my breath. The quote is also so unbelievably poorly written, I'm hoping I'm understanding what I'm reading?

They have an "insider" who told them the Kenobi series is gonna have flashbacks to pre-Empire era, and HC is going to reprise his role as Anakin in them.

Flashbacks are probably a sure thing, considering the overall nature of the story. Obi-Wan is in self-imposed exile on a desert planet in the middle of nowhere, he'll be haunted by the past day and night.

Unless they do an off-world adventure, but one does not exclude the other. Past will haunt Obi-Wan either way.

Or at least they had Chabon.

And as a writer, not a director? Or did he direct an episode?

As for visual effects, here's my take in general: Everyone loves reasonably good visuals that propel the story. TOS-R don't look the most recent but they still added detail that sell those exterior shots really nicely, complete with minutiae that often add much. DISCO's composited array of visuals impress me solely in terms of what the CGI artists do in tandem with the director and camera crew based on the motion guided cameras and other computer systems; it is truly amazing. Visuals can impact a storyllne to much great effect but they can also upend the show if the screen is too busy with a laughably high number of camera turns or ships or other excessive things that add nothing to the plot, which is something Star Wars and 2005-present Doctor Who have done and for the sake of trying to look impressive, much like the Emperor's new swimsuit was. A certain YouTube channel*, who got a piece of continuity wrong**, otherwise nailed it by showing visuals that - on a phone or tablet - would make one laugh. On a properly sized TV, one might get dizzy or nauseous and as revealed in a couple DSC cases how the visual bling serves no value apart from "that looks cool but the story's still garbage".

Effects can distract or detract from the plot, which in turn serves the script writers an injustice. Now imagine retakes by actors, should one actor flub up or if they had to change lighting, distance, perspective, angle, or anything else (which then means the CGI people get to update their model objects and re-render, which isn't fast OR cheap OR easy but I do understand why they get awards, and deservedly so!!)

* "Major Grin" is the name of the channel. One of the few I still keep subscribed
** "The Vulcan Hello" does tie into what Spock said to Trelane about Vulcans using violence in "The Squire of Gothos" accurately and fairly BTW

I know not to trust We Got This Covered, but this really isn't that out there of an idea, so it seems possible. Although if it does happen, it'll probably be a coincidence that WGTC had a story about it, rather than them actually getting a some kind of insider information.
I would have been more shocked if he wasn't. Obi-Wan's purpose on Tattooine was the watch over Luke, so I would expect him to make at least one appearance on the show somewhere long the line.

I can see them getting Hayden back to do a few bit for Kenobi, but I don't buy a Rey series just yet. Ridley has just come off a 3 movie, 5+ year run in one franchise and hasn't really done much else of note. Unless Disney are about to offer her an obscene amount of money to stick around, this is when she needs to prove to the industry that she can do more than just Star Wars and get some nice meaty dramatic roles or else be doomed to typcasting obscurity.

Also, I get the sense Disney is about ready to give the ST end of Star Wars a rest, for at least a while. They didn't even bother commissioning their animated tie-in series much past the last movie's release and they're practically dumping all the remaining episodes in the space of a month.
I think we're more likely to see projects focusing of other eras of the franchise; pre and post OT seem ot be the focus for most known projects that are up next, and it's a fair bet they'll be doing something Old Republic related sooner rather than later.

Maybe in 5-10 years once people get nostalgic, the kids the grew up with Rey age up into the 18+ demographic and Ridley isn't such an in-demand actress they might do something with Rey again, but I won't hold my breath.

As for the source for that news: sounds like bullshit any halfway knowledgeable fan could make up, with just enough sensationalism to be clickbaity. So no, I don't trust a word of it.

I wonder if the plot will revolve around young Luke getting bit by some Tatooine wildlife, then turning puffy and green, with big black eyes and pointy ears?

I could see them doing some sequel trilogy follow ups in comic and/or novel form, but I I doubt we'll see the characters on screen anytime soon.
The only way I could maybe see them appearing onscreen again would be an animated series, with at least some of the characters possibly being recast.
