News Obi-Wan Kenobi series premiering on May 27

What do they need Hayden Christensen for? James Earl Jones is still with us and he can actually act.

Im wondering if they'll do some kind of flashback thing which is why they have Hayden Christensen. It'd be weird, but I think both of them could still pull it off without too much Effects or makeup having to be used. Regardless I'm interesting to see what happens, and I'm still really excited for the show.

I wonder if the scope of the show has widened a bit and will feature some of Vader's search for Kenobi and escaped Jedi's...

Is it possible that Vader and Kenobi could have met in between episodes three and four? That would still put 9 years between the show and episode 4, and they could do something to make Vader think he killed Kenobi or something like that to explain why he was surprised to sense Kenobi in episode 4.

I mean its the one thing that makes sense to bring Christensen back, as otherwise its him in a suit that should be having James Earl Jones doing all the talking for.

Except Rebels had him thinking Kenobi was still alive 5 years before A New Hope.

I didn't think about that, I don't really remember much about that show. They can ignore it easily enough, or they could just go with him having seen Kenobi in this show somewhere outside of tattooine, so hed have good reason to think he's still alive.

They did make a Vader suit for Christensen in Revenge of the Sith. Also if they have him with the mask off, it would make sense to have it be the burnt face of Anakin. At the start of Rebels has Vader still focused on finding Kenobi. Maybe the Obi series has Kenobi do one last favor for someone and he gets a lot of close calls with Vader. Enough for Vader to sense Obi-wan is still alive, but not enough to find him and confront him. He really got his hopes up when he found out about Ahsoka. The only time we saw "present day" Obi-wan was about a year and a half or so before the Battle of Yavin, when Ezra and Maul were after him.

Happy for Christensen that he's coming back. I know he had a brief voice role in TRoS, but I feel like his role here will be something more substantive. I have to imagine they're going to do some kind of flashback; they wouldn't bring him back just to stick him in the Vader suit the whole time and then dub over his lines with Jones or another voice actor.

Maybe some of their better moments during the war? Recreate a scene or two from the Clone Wars with Christensen, McGregor and even Dawson or someone as Ahsoka and Morrison doing Rex.

I'll admit my gut reaction to hearing Vader will be in it was disappointment. I kinda really wanted a contained, low stakes character focused piece and I really like the notion that Obi-Wan stood watch at his post for the entire 19 years. I'm open to see what they have in mind though.

I had heard the rumours that Hayden would be back, though I'd assumed it would be for the live action Ahsoka show. I tend to agree that they're probably not going to keep him in the suit, at least not the whole time.

Was incredibly surprised at the Christensen news. Be curious to see how that plays out, especially since I think the less Vader the better.

I doubt they'd be announcing him like this if it were a small role. He'll be Vader without the mask and possibly appear in flashbacks. It's been 15 years but Hayden still has the looks, and if they still opted for some digital de-aging, it'd be minor.

If this were another franchise I'd imagine Anakin/Darth there in Obi Wan's head, talking to him like he was actually there. ala Dexter with his dad. But not sure I'd see Star Wars doing that.
