I find it interesting (and telling) that no one who has posted in this discussion in order to complain that Obama did not release the long form sooner has addressed any of the points brought up pointing out that the short form is the accepted, official document from the state of Hawaii and that it WAS released years ago!

It is like they just do not hear the facts- and have nothing to offer to support their incorrect stand on the subject.

Several of us did. Birthers don't want to look at facts, they want to believe in a conspiracy to get a nigger in the white house and that it was all planned from the very beginning.

Facts won't matter, so instead we choose to waste our time making fun of them.

Movies like The Manchurian Candidate, wherein a foreign sleeper agent could become president, hit too close to home for most Americans. Regardless of whether it could happen, or not, the fear that an outsider could come in and become a dictator or absolute ruler of The United States of America is the reason such a Constitutional Amendment allowing naturalized citizens to become president will never happen.

The United States was founded by those who did not wish to be subject to an absolute ruler.

- If you'll recall, the characters BEING brainwashed in those films were all American-born and bred. Their handlers were foreign (in the original, anyway), but they themselves were not.

I have. When Arnold became governor of California there was much discussion of it. I also remember when Demolition Man came out, it was a topic of conversation. Perhaps you should visit our neck of the woods and converse. I am in favor of the current law regarding presidential qualifications.

Yeah, but you said this is something MOST Americans truly fear, not this is something there was some speculative discussion about when the Terminator was elected to office.

It's such a ridiculous scenario anyway. How does this sleeper single-handedly gain control of the entire government?

I live in Orange County, California; Republican central. I have family that are super-conservative and hate Obama. None of them seriously entertain the idea of sleeper agents becoming President and becoming a dictator.

As noted, the 25th amendment prescribes the manner in which a vice presidential vacancy is filled mid-term (nomination by the president, confirmation by both houses of Congress). This has happened twice in U.S. history (Gerald Ford (nominated by Richard Nixon) and Nelson Rockefeller (nominated by Gerald Ford)).

Prior to the 25th amendment, vacancies in the vice presidency remained vacant until the beginning of the next term (when the newly elected vice president would take office).

Vance makes several incorrect claims:

1) that Gerald Ford never nominated a vice president

2) that the Presidential Succession Act of 1947 covers the replacement of a vice president

3) that LBJ had the option of filling the vacant vice presidential position prior to the end of Kennedy's elected term of office

4) that Boehner would become Vice President should Obama die in office (or be removed by other means)

But if we must get back on topic, I have a friend that lives in Laguna Hills. There and Laguna Beach are pretty liberal. She took me around Laguna Beach once before the 2008 election, and i was glad to see so many Obama/Biden signs on the houses.
