NYCC Season 3 Trailer

That's
what I was postulating yesterday. Troi's "all-consuming darkness" certainly brought Armus to mind.
on one hand it feels like a bit of a joke when I think about it, at the same time, It's something that would have some resonance, it would be interesting to see if Armus ever made it off that Planet and is now in some Human appearing form

That modified Spacedock has more changes than the added platforms around the main :-Dsection, the lower bell shape seems flare wider, need to get a side by side reference.

I do not play STO so I am unfamiliar with the Odyssey class, looks nice except the back half of tbe nacelles tapers too daintily, looks decorative.

I hope tbe Moriarty character works out. He was created on the holodeck able to outsmart Data, his holoprogram had the resources of the Enterprise's main computer to support that.

The station in season 3 is apparently not the original upgraded or anything, and what happened to the original will be brought up.

Honestly, for the most part? Meh. Action, boom boom, explosion, revenge, etc. etc., the only aspect that seemed interesting was Moriarty. The rest didn't really pique my interest. Don't get me wrong, I love these people, and I love the characters, but I'm kind of tired of this kind of storytelling.
We've seen just over 2 minutes of a 10-hour story.

I know, but the whole idea of a trailer is to get you amped up for the season. It would be like if a trailer for The Shining only showed the soft, quiet moments where Jack is sane and things seem fine. Few people would have gone and seen it.

So I have to get a feel for what the season will be like by seeing what has been emphasized. The emphasis on darkness, revenge, and violence with lots of cool explosions doesn't grab my interest. If it does you, that's great! I'm just saying for me it doesn't work. I'll still be checking it out, just saying the trailer didn't really spark any interest.

Do trailers actually spark interest anymore? They seem to say "Here's this thing coming" and generate reckless speculation beyond that.

At 1:50 of the trailer, they show a scene of Spacedock with what appears to be fireworks going off around it (right before transitioning to the Ent-F -- also not sure how fireworks go off in space). If there's a celebration, this seems to jive with the earlier reported idea that this occurs around the 250th anniversary of the Federation.

Also, there was a tweet debate about the design of the enemy ship. Someone commented that it strongly evoked the Narada, but Terry Matalas was VERY quick to shoot that down. I think he's misleading here on purpose. I suspect there's a connection.

So, I am very underwhelmed by this teaser trailer. It was nice to see the gang back together (the few moments any of them get together at least), but the tone, focused on an apparent villain focused on revenge, just seems so boring to me. If that isn't what the plot is actually about, then this trailer has failed on at least one of its goals by making me less interested in the season.

A few items, most liked to least liked:
1. Lore - hopefully Spiner gets a better everything than in season 2
2. Riker and Worf doing stuff!
3. Moriarty - what is this? an episode of LDS? Great callback!
4. Raffi and 7 getting actually interesting plotlines, maybe?
...
x. ships and generic action stuff
x+1. pervasive dark lighting scheme
...
n-1. Vadic (even though I can appreciate some overacting, this character so far doesn't do anything for me)
n. revenge plotline #1,000,000?

Don't really know anything about the guy, but I hope Robert Meyer Burnett is right that 1) PIC season 3 is really good, 2) that a lot of what is presented in the trailer is purposefully misleading.

The Moriarty bit and seeing Amanda Plummer sparked some interest in me; otherwise it's the usual trailer formula of a bunch of special effects and disjointed dialogue which don't really amount to much.

It always seemed crazy that no one (Bruce Maddox?) ever thought to have a go uploading Data’s brain into Lore. B-4 couldn’t handle it, but Lore was functionally identical to Data.

I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what this is - an experiment on Lore that lead to a schizophrenic Android with competing personalities, like Gollum/Smeagol.
Maddox of all people has learned that Soong-type androids have rights. Lore, as bad as he was, also has the right to not have another personality added against his will. He could've been reactivated and maybe he broke out of the bad robot storage room at Daystrom :D
Or... Moriarty needs a body and uses Lore :D

And all because of
Mariner's prank call
:D

Who thinks the Lore story might be a misdirect? Like he may well be in there. But what are the chances that Data comes back?

On one hand it would undermine one of the only redeeming parts of Season 1 where Data is deactivated based on Picard's request. But what if they mix it up a bit and somehow deliver on Data's "I want to be human" arc? That could be kind of interesting because it would [hopefully] make fans happy without making it too silly.

Also I'm totally open to the theory that a number of the villains are all holograms for 1-2 episodes and not the main plot.

I get Klingon vibes from the new villain and not only that, it's about revenge. Revenge for what though? Could it be a child of Lursa or B'Etor out for revenge for what happened to them? I mean, a genetically altered child for whatever reason.

That would be 2411, but apparently Matalas confirmed this takes place in 2402.

There seems to be a poster outside Guinan’s bar at the start of the trailer for ‘Frontier Day’, with pictures of the TOS Enterprise, Ent-D and Voyager. That would tie in with the Titan supposedly being a new exploration ship, and maybe the launch of the Enterprise-F?

Maybe it’s 250 years since the NX-01 launched? But that was 2151. It doesn’t quite seem to align up with anything!

I've see that. I'd notice a picture of Ray Charles as well.

I'm rooting for a Barclay cameo. He has felt bad about Moriarty for decades, and so he manages to build a mobile holoemitter using the Doctor's emitter as a template. He activates Moriarty and starts to haltingly explain that the last 20 years were basically the Matrix - a total fictitious lie. Moriarty knew already. He figured it out after a few months and felt enormously betrayed. He is seething, and he kills Barclay and then escapes.

I'm actually disappointed there's a new Enterprise. I was hoping for the E-E to return. It's not my fav E but it was an excellent design and didn't get much chance to show itself off.

Plus it would be nice to see another E actually survive for a little while. I'm surprised anyone wants to serve on them, the damn registry is cursed.

Edit to add: I'm more disappointed that they used the STO version. You have a new Constitution class and you made the new E something else?!?!

I suspect the Enterprise F being Odyssey class is likely just a by-product of, everyone else has used that design, we might as well too, just like the Titan being Luna class in Lower Decks.

STO is the only thing that had used the Odyssey as the Ent-F before now, I’m 99% sure.

I doubt that will happen based on the actor’s politics.

Well, Dwight's a little Rightie in his beliefs but then so is Gary Graham and he has yet to lose any appreciable acting work over being a hardcore conservative, at least that I can tell.
