Now THIS woman is a WONDER!

I like the look of this short, in particular the Themiscrya setting, but wow, that spear-throw was pathetic - she didn't even wind her arm all the way back, she just sort of jerked her forearm!

Also, I'm sorry (no, I'm not), but the bullet-deflecting bracelets are just plain stupid. Make her strong enough to only have bullet hits bruise her before bouncing off her skin or whatever, but no bracelets, please.

The costume actually looked pretty good. Not sure it'd work in any kind of serious dialogue scene, but it worked here.

^I have to disagree. The bracelets, and her skill with them, are as iconic to Wonder Woman as Batman's utility belt and Superman's "S" shield symbol are to them.

Indeed, that actually works really well. Perhaps a bit too reminiscent of Buffy, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Also agreed. This was fun. And felt modern.

The one in the original post felt like... well... nothing. An extended fight scene. No character, no context. And it was a 2 minute slow motion fight scene. Boring.

And can we stop with the hop up to punch DOWN thing? Ugh.

Neither short impressed me, but the second was definitely better. One problem with the second one: Diana lets her date get kicked on the ground. WW would never do that.

When I saw this vid, it was 17 hours old and over 400000 viewers had beat me to it. Now its about 24 hours old and nearly a million have seen it.

Sounds like I'm not the only person interested in a WW movie. :)
I'd be interested too. WW is not my favourite character, but I'd love to see a WW flick in theaters. As others have said, the urban war/minotaur is nice to look at but lacks soul. The second one encapsulates the character in a much better way in my opinion (and the fighting sequence was amazing).

Nor would any guy say anything like "who knew this OK Cupid thing would work out?" on a first date. That's "I don't like sand"-level prose, there.

Nor would two modern adults on a first date walk through such a comically deserted part of a city, let alone try to smooch there (before what? Breaking into an abandoned warehouse to shag).

I don't think we should tolerate howling stupidity in fan productions just because they're fan works. If shorts such as these aspire to high production values, they should produce similarly quality scripts.

Yeah, it's well produced and everything, but I don't see how this is "proof" that WW is viable as a movie. I mean, sure, they came up with a costume design that is both faithful to the source material and works from a practical standpoint....but that's about it.

Agreed. The most important thing it needed to do was give us some kind of insight into her character and personality, and show us how WW could be made interesting and relatable to the general audience.

It's not enough just to have a vacant model type strike some cool poses and look "badass" for the camera. That doesn't really take much effort at all.

Character and personality of the character is vital to any character in any genre. What you've both said is valid to a point, but it is the same for any film. None of it is unique to the development of a Wonder Woman film, though it does seem hard for film makers to do so with female leads outside of romcoms.

The second one was no better. More gritty urban blah instead of any fantasy elements. And I got a kick (so to speak) out of how they let them beat the crap out of her date before bothering to do anything. Although he did recover quickly from what should have been at least a trip to the ER. :rommie:

I'd say there more like as iconic as Batman's underage sidekick or Superman's red trunks - famous, yes, but expendable. ;)

And I'm certainly not saying don't include the bracelets in the costume at all, or don't have them do something special at some point, like deflect a laser or something, but the whole deflecting bullets thing just looks silly unless she's got Neo-speed reflexes.

Funny, the only thing I LIKED about that other video was when HER bracelets deflected the gun shot.

IIRC.. the bracelets are integral to WW because they supposedly represented the bondage the Amazons were tricked/sold into by Heracles.

Taking them off Diana because they aren't up to date with the 21st century would be like taking the cross off the shield from a 21st century version of a Knight of the Templar.

I watched WW during its first run (yeah, I'm THAT old.) but I have to agree with Joss Whedon on this point.

http://www.blastr.com/2013-9-27/joss-whedon-explains-why-he-doesnt-think-wonder-woman-works-tv

“It is hard. She’s a tough nut to crack. I know she’s famous as a television show, but I don’t think she lends herself to television," Whedon told Entertainment Weekly. "I think she only works on an epic scale.

I agree with him. WW is epic and she needs to be treated that way.

I have to admit, I fell in love with WW when George Perez rebooted the franchise in the late 80's after DC's Crisis on Infinite Earths.

This guy likes that WW as much as I do.

Hmmmm.

Looks like ABC has found the video... http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/video/viral-woman-video-shows-audience-20442129

And just like any neighborhood, once one dog starts barking, they all start barking, here's NBC... http://www.today.com/entertainment/...r-sparks-excitement-possible-movie-8C11323106

Oh well.

I'd rather have memories of a great comic than a substandard TV show.

ETA:

2.5 million views before ABC outed it, and 11 hours later it has 3.1 million views. 2.7 million more than when I first posted the link 2 days ago.

Hopefully SOMEONE SOMEWHERE will rethink how to do a 21st century WW well.

That was my assumption.
I though the first video looked cool, but had no real substance. The second one had more personality to it, but didn't have the wow factor. If we could combine the two then you would have an all around good movie. Just take the personality and story of First Impressions, and add the epicness of the first one.

The first one had better production values. The second one had better fight choreography and characterization.
