Now That Some Time Has Past....

I think I can confidently say that Star Trek XI is the best Trek film ever made.

It's really no contest.

But, I'll go further.

Star Trek is probably the best version of Trek ever made and has the potential to eclipse, even, dare I say....no I don't dare say.

Okay. I'll say it. Star Trek is better than Star Trek!

Star Trek is better than Star Trek.

Well that is a pretty heavy statment you're making there. And I'll assume that you've watched TOS and you're saying the new movie blows away those 3 seasons...interesting...I don't think I've seen anybody say this before...but it was bound to happen. I'm surprised I haven't seen this statement earlier.....

I dislike it more with the passage of time. It's still a spectacular, fun film, but it's also quite ridiculous to the point of annoyance. The flaws become more obvious when the excitement wears off.

I'd rather watch quite a few episodes from each series over it.

I know what you mean...the further away from the watch date I got the more I was bothered by things in the movie...but I refuse to let it seriously jade me...I'm liking the movie for what it is...not what it isn't. I know it may not appear that way around the board but it's true.

It may well be the best of the Trek movies.

It is not better than the original Trek TV series.

I'm framing this post...so next time you piss me off about TOS I can look at it and touch it and caress it. ;)

There is nothing better on VHS, DVD, Blue Ray or film that would do a better job bringing in new fans, entertaining viewers the world over or representing Trek for new fans, old fans and even non-fans.

Star Trek is better than Star Trek.

Change 'representing' to 'misrepresenting' and I'd agree. I think anyone turning to older material for the first time after seeing this film would be disappointed if they're looking for more of the same. Little about the movie's story, tone, or characterization resembles the prior art.
disagree. This movie fit TOS to deny it means you weren't paying attention to TOS or you are remembering it through a blurred sense of nostalgia

For all the controversial narrative of the Undiscovered Country, or the action of the Wrath of Khan, or the subtexted environmental story of A Voyage Home, those movies didnt have to do what Abram's movie did-simultaeously appease old fans, win new fans, and do it with a movie that made sense and was entertaining.

That's simply not true. Growing up in the 80's, the movies (and TNG) won me (and an entire generation) over as fans.

It could even be said that Trek didn't really come into its own as a franchise until the TOS movies were produced.

I wasn't around in 1966...

Trek XI isn't the best Trek movie. I like it better than the last three films, but I'd watch the first seven before this one again.

it's a lovely, magnificent Trek movie. but TWOK still sets the bar. the biggest problem with Star Trek (Abrams' version) is a lack of a strong villain. Nero was good and -- bless his heart -- Bana did well with what he had.

but, let's face it -- he's no Khan.

I just received my Nero action figure today. I'm rather fond of him.

It comes with a Teral'n. That trident thingy.

wouldn't it be awesome to get a Robau/George Kirk TV series?! they could end it with the Nero showdown.
