Apologies if this has already been made into a poll elsewhere. I'm not around these parts especially often. But I'm curious; I'd like to take TrekBBS' "pulse" on this one. I've seen opinions that have been all over the place on season 3. Then again, the same applies to 1 and 2! So let's see how this rolls.

Personally, I like the third season the most, followed by the second. There are things about each year that are real misses with me but overall I'd say the show improves all the time.

I like Season 1 more than Season 2. The first season has a harshness, roughness, and dark design that the second season lacks, except for "Point of Light".

I still like Season 3, but it had way more potential than the first two seasons that I don't think was entirely lived up to. So it's tough, but I have to place it below the first two seasons.

I'm holding out hope for Season 4 to pick things up in this regard... but the truth is we've entered the more stable part of the series' life-cycle. Burnham's Captain, Discovery is fully integrated into 32nd Century Starfleet, and all the rough edges that I liked best about the series before are gone. It's something else. Something else I still like, but something else.

That having been said, Book and Adira are both great additions to the cast. I'm glad they're sticking around. And the third season is Culber's best. By a long shot. I think he's overlooked too often in discussion.

Vance too. How can I leave him out? He's one of the most level-headed Admirals I've ever seen in Star Trek. I miss Cornwell, who didn't take shit from anyone. But I'm glad they went a different route instead of trying to recreate the same character. Someone pointed out that Vance is kind of like Pike. I can see that to an extent. But I think Vance is more reserved while Pike was a bit more adventurous. Vance has lived an entire life where he's had to be cautious. Burnham's beginning to make him look beyond his cocoon it seems, with her outside perspective.

I think my two biggest gripes about the season are the way Tilly became First Officer and Osyraa being killed off as soon as she was. I thought she was going to stick around.

Interesting results (and excellent commentary). The second season has taken the lead but it's been fairly steady between all three seasons.

Season 3. While I love Lorca(praise be to Jason Issacs) S3 has just been alot of fun for me and along with (lots great of emotional moments) in a way that the other seasons can't measure up to.

Season 2 is Discovery's best season by far. You can't go wrong with truly classic Star Trek characters from TOS, or the ship that actually started it all (and I can't wait for "Strange New Worlds" :))

Season 2 for me as well, obviously because of Spock, Pike etc. but also I thought the first half was stronger than s1, though it kind of fell apart midway. Sound of Thunder is still my favorite episode the show has produced so far

All of them had their issues, but Season 2 ekes out Season 3. I liked elements of both, but Anson Mount as Pike seemed to be a steadying force across the hiccups. It also seemed the least of the three seasons to rush into its ending just to make a nice neat package.

I don't know. I think season 3 was more entertaining, but season 1 was technically more coherent, if harder on the eyes (though they were all hard on the eyes!).

Season 2 probably had the best characters and stories, but also the worst! And all had disappointing endings, though 3 has the weakest.

Can I vote for the first half of season 1 and the first half of season 2.

Every Kurtzmann Trek has been ruined by the big reveal/gear change.
Season 1 was good despite the mutineer and Michael Sarek stories and was pretty solid until Lorca took off his Scooby Doo mask.
Season 2 is is probably the best so far until the Burnham angel reveal and then evil robot S31 guy turns it into the worst part of Disco yet.
3 doesn't have the half and half seasons but has as many awful decisions as good ones. Exploring the crew gave us the good more Detmer and Culber and the bad Cdr Tilly and space Hitler. Probably the biggest mistake though was not building on that brief excellent moment when they teased the idea the the Emerald chain might be more that silly evil villains only to go full Michael Bay the next episode

I will say this: I like PIC Season 1 better than DSC Season 3, but I think coming out of the third season, Discovery looks like it has a better-defined direction than Picard currently appears to (short of having a mole on-set or in the Writer's Room).

DSC Season 4: Captain Burnham and the USS Discovery have to re-connect with former Federation worlds. How will they be greeted? Meanwhile, Saru has brought the man who unintentionally caused The Burn to Kaminar. How will Su'kal be received? How will Saru be received, in turn, for standing by him? And, surprisingly, there's a Vance story I see. How does the Federation deal with an Emerald Chain that's been in disarray? That's what I see. How much of this is actually what happens is another story. I think this will be pre-setup background for whatever the main story will be.

PIC Season 2: Picard lives on in a Gollum Body. Is he Human where it matters? Is he something else? What do Soji and Elnor do, basically being young adults no longer surrounded by anything they ever knew? Why is Rios letting anyone besides Jurati (who he likes) and his best bud Raffi (and now Seven by extension) stay on his ship, La Sirena?

Now that Picard has tied up the loose ends from Nemesis and has shown what from the "All Good Things" Future actually came to pass (at least on Picard's end), it has a lot more to create from scratch, whereas Discovery already has things set up. Which makes sense, since one is going into the fourth season and the other is going into the second.

The more I think about it, the more I think there's a compromise they could've taken that would've kept the character beats intact while still having the type of finale they obviously wanted.

Vance is meeting with Osyraa. Except instead, he has the President with him. Vance believes Osyraa should stand trial. That still runs the risk of blowing up negotiations. Then the President, ever-being the politician, says "No need to make any decisions now" (and then to Vance), "You and I will talk later... " Vance still wants Osyraa to stand trial. The President is a crooked, slimy politician. And Osyraa is frustrated she's hit a brick wall. Such is the life of fighting red-tape. But she wants things to go forward, is still serious about putting the past behind (like the Klingons in TUC), so she puts up with the obstacles she perceives.

And then it's Zareh who decides to fuck things up. That character was made for this type of thing. It doesn't change the political situation between the Federation and the Emerald Chain, but it still allows Burnham the opportunity to save the ship and become Captain. Maybe Zareh has some henchman who Book kicks down the turbo-maze, so he can still scream "She's a Queen!"

While Season 1 had some things i really liked, it was way too short for the story it wanted to tell. Especially with the mirror arc taking away so much time from the main plot about the war against the Klingons.

So it's a draw between Season 2 and 3 for me.
