Not Supporting the New Movie.

So people would hate having an Enterprise that actually resembles what was in Star Trek?

It does resemble the ship from the original Star Trek.

I assume by "resemble" you meant "looks absolutely identical to". In which case, yeah. People probably wouldn't be too thrilled with it. Remember this isn't the first time the original had to be changed to look good on the big screen. If it was dated in '79...

Please explain why Star Trek must be completely disregarded in order to create something that appeals to general audiences.

Because the Star Trek you're referring to has been tainted by a long string of products that could charitably be called disasters in terms of their popularity and profitability, and the most recent Star Trek that was any good is now over a decade old.

I'm a 35 year-old who's been a fan for 24 years...and am I the only one that in the new movie, when Uhura wonders if they're all living in some alternate universe, I thought "NO! You're all doing so great! Just go with it! You don't need to explain yourselves!"
Of course Nimoy's in it...but I look at this like James Bond...I just accept it and that it looks different. It's one of those things where you can either do that or you can't.

No I don't mean look absolutely identical. The Pike era Enterprise was different than the regular series Enterprise. Why not make a version that looks like it could resonably progress into the Pike Era Enterprise. Maybe they movie could be about Captain Robert April and the first mission of the Enterprise.

Believe me, you are definitely not the only one! I thought the very same thing. It was totally unnecessary to explain that. Personally I just didn't care. It's all entertainment anyway. And this movie was very entertaining. There was absolutely no need to explain that some things are different now. I'm glad you thought so, too.

There is a local gym here that is women only. Try getting into THAT if you're a bloke.

If the session is listed as "Men Only", why would you assume it's okay to bring a woman? Funny how discrimination seems to be tolerated only in one direction.

I was 100% behind this movie until the NuTrek Gestapo kicked my door down, produced a court order which declared my TOS DVDs contraband and made me watch as they smashed them one by one over a bust of Quinto as Spock.

Kinda soured me on the whole thing.

It's the obsessive nuTrek fanatics(almost worshippers)who almost ruined this for me. It's actually a similar situation to nuBSG where, if you DARE say ONE BAD THING about the new(nu)product they will vilify you openly here. It's disgusting in itself. Everybody has the right to his/her opnion and just because somebody expresses that they are not openly supporting the new film, does not give people here the right to name call and treat him like he has the Black Plague.

Personally, reading the OP, I had respect for the man because at least he is putting his money where his mouth is.

Since the reset has been an intergral part of Star Trek since the Original Series, simply to exploit the full horror of an unacceptable "What if" scenario...

So I'm assuming this is your view for other people too. Women fighting for civil rights should have been allowed to protest all they wanted as long as they didn't drag others into theiur crazy land.

What? Please don't put words into my mouth. I find the idea of Lady's Night just as ridiculous as Men's Night. Both are rather discriminating ideas when it comes to actually excluding one gender. I mean, come on, it's a goddamn movie theatre! Why restricting it to one gender? It's kind of a cute idea, but I don't get how anyone could take that seriously. What are women's movies anyway? And what is a movie only for men? I absolutely detest those kind of categorizations.

Hmm, this is awkward..... I was 100% joking.

I have found that those who favour the new film are generally FAR FAR FAR more open minded than those who oppose it. This could turn out to be the best film ever made, and those who bash it now unseen would probably still bash it. If it turns out to be Nemesis 2, I highly doubt that many of those who currently show enthusiasm will stand by it.

The difference? The nuTrek pushers aren't crazy, just hopeful.

Last time I'm saying keep this thread about Trek and the new movie. I'll be the one getting the last word otherwise. It'll also come with more baggage then a mere thread closing.

Can't this be a good film AND be a seperate/alternate timeline? Why would an alternate timeline automatically make this bad Trek?

Really? I've seen strong debates on some boards, but I haven't seen a culture of vilification of peoples' opinions (except from the fringe extreme on both sides of the issue -- but the fringe extremes don't count).
