Not Supporting the New Movie.

You want to be mad at someone, be mad at the people that gave us Voyager, Enterprise, and Nemesis. It's because of them that a continuation of the Star Trek universe that we're familiar with isn't viable. Blaming Abrams for taking the only approach open to him is irrational.

Maybe this movie will suck. If it had been Nemesis 2, there'd be no maybe.

So you're saying the best way to boycott a product is to buy things associated with it? Hmm that doesn't make much sense.

I think you, personally, should boycott whatever you like. Don't drag others into crazyland with you.

TMP didn't reboot Star Trek. It updated it. TMP didn't replace anything that went before. TNG didn't replace anything that went before. Yes there are inconsistancies, but it's a story. It wouldn't make much sense if I was telling a story and constantly changed the story as I was telling it.

But Star Trek does that all the time. It's made clear in 'Deadlock' that the timeline the episode ends in is not the timeline the episode began in. Same with Yesterday's Enterprise, or All Good Things, or Future's End, or Trials and Tribbleations, or any of the time travel eps that didn't involve the predestination paradox

I don't have a problem with Voyager. Enterprise is the same thing as Fake Trek. I actually liked Nemesis.

There's lots of ways to do a Star Trek prequel and actually stick with what has been established. You don't have to completely ignore Star Trek to make a "cool" movie.

I was 100% behind this movie until the NuTrek Gestapo kicked my door down, produced a court order which declared my TOS DVDs contraband and made me watch as they smashed them one by one over a bust of Quito as Spock.

Kinda soured me on the whole thing.
But...but...their uniforms are just so damn stylish...I mean - black leather boots and trenchcoats go with everything...

Silver lining, and all that...

Don't get me wrong, they had impeccable fashion sense. But when they forced me to tear the heads off of all my TNG action figures something just broke inside of me.

You don't even want to know what they did to my life-size cardboard Sisko.
What do you expect when your idea of standing up to the bullies involves holding a Mr Worf figure up and shouting "Fly, Worf! Fly! Vanquish my enemies! There will be many songs sung in honor of this glorious battle!" while hiding behind a cardboard Sisko?

That sort of thing really pisses them off...

I really had faith in my Playmates phaser. :(

I managed to hide my tricorder from them, but it isn't giving me much help re: my probable internal bleeding.

AAABRAAAAAAAMMMMMS!

Probable? You need to find out for sure. What you need is a tricorder.

Oh...right...*wince* Yup.

So I'm assuming this is your view for other people too. Women fighting for civil rights should have been allowed to protest all they wanted as long as they didn't drag others into theiur crazy land. Gays should be alolowed to protest for the right to marry so long as they don't drag others into their crazyland. The nature of protesting is to affect the world around you. So I'm going to drag as many people into my "crazyland" as I can.

Well, you just lost all credibility with this 30 year Trekker. lol Wow, you liked the most vacuous Trek Series and the most tired, cliched, and poorly written Trek movie. Bravo

Oh God, please don't equate your nonsense to people who are actually fighting for a good cause. :wtf:

IT'S A MOVIE. THE STAR TREK UNIVERSE IS NOT REAL! And quite frankly, I think it's an appalling insult to real people fighting real injustices in the world to even tangentially cast your hissy fit over the new movie in the same light as civil rights activism. I understand there are good reasons for the "post, not poster" rule but if this is for real, you've just made the best possible argument for selective enforcement of the rules. :angryrazz:

WARNING! EPIC FAIL IN PROGRESS!

I liked VOY and NEM to an extent too. Uh-oh! I also think nuTrek is going to kick ass. Using your argument though I have no credibility. Damn.

We are not not going there. At all. Keep this thread about Trek or it's done.

I knew it was a mistake to come back to the forums. "I'll just put my toe back in the water." I said. "You used to have such fun there, remember?" I said.

I am a Trek fan. Trek fandom has many great and wonderful people and things. Everything that is wrong with Trek fandom can be found here. You are turning something fun into something not-fun. Please do stop.

None that would have had the slightest bit of appeal to anyone outside of this forum.

So people would hate having an Enterprise that actually resembles what was in Star Trek? Please explain why Star Trek must be completely disregarded in order to create something that appeals to general audiences.

Hey I didn't say I liked voyager, I siad I didn't have problem with it. So you don't think that two starships actually ramming into each other was cool? Yeah there was a lot in Nemesis that was pretty bad. But there was some pretty cools stuff too. Bridge getting blown open and a guy getting sucked out into space. Nemesis isn't one of my favorites but I still enjoy it.

I liked both, as I like almost all of Star Trek, including much of this film. If that damages my "credibility" in your eyes, I really do not care. I disagree with your opinions, but would not presume to judge you for it.

It is, however, quite unfortunate that you would be so intolerant of other people's opinions, and particularly remarkable for someone who has been a fan for a while.

I'm not saying Star Trek is anywhere near a civil rights movement. I was using that as an example that the point of protesting is not to stay in one's own "crazyland" but to affect other people.

Here's what immediately sprung to mind:

"No matter what I say, it draws controversy. It's sort of like the abortion issue." -- Donkey Kong king Billy Mitchell
