Not Supporting the New Movie.

Love! Even if, as they told me yesterday at the cinema, that it's a men's film and I'm not supposed to go in. Go figure.

Wow, so they really do take that Men's Night thing seriously, eh? I saw it today with a couple of friends and I booked five seats in advance. There was a showing at 8 PM as part of that ludicrous Men's Night nonsense and one at 8:30 PM. We decided to book tickets for the later showing, because we were afraid they wouldn't let in the girls. I didn't think they'd take it that seriously. That's ridiculous! What were their arguments? That it is a men's film? :wtf:

NEWS FLASH! It's all FAKE TREK!

You don't think every series has rebooted the franchise? Aside from all the inconsistencies between series and within series (http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/inconsistencies.htm), the whole aesthetic, technology, and culture have been recreated over and over again.

You obviously know Star Trek pretty well. It's no accident that Enterprise has more in common with Voyager than TOS. Why is that? Because it's a goddamn TV show made by the same producers and writers, not future history.

If you don't like the new movie, fine, by all means, boycott the hell out of it, but Star Trek is Star Trek, and a lot of whimpering, whining, and bossing your wife around isn't going to change that for the rest of us Trekkies who might have something more invested in the future of Trek than revanchist fundamentalism.

Trek's always been entertainment for me, not a religion, and as long as it entertains me, I will support it.

Jesus. I feel like taking a shower after reading this thread.

Men's Night at a movie theater? Never heard of that before.

You know, I thought the cereal bit was the "Oh, this is obviously a joke thread" part but apparently not...

That's pathetic. And people wonder why "Trekkies" can easily be construed as a derogatory term.

Funny you should link to ex astris scientia, because the writer on that site has a very pessimistic view on the film.

today my wife and I went shopping and she wanted a certain cereal. The cereal featured Fake Trek. I told her I wouldn't allow that garbage in my house. I wouldn't let her buy that cereal until she found another box that didn't feature the movie.

This is the ravings of a certifiable lunatic. Leave your poor wife alone to eat her damned cereal you sad, sad man.

That's great. I'm actually happy to read that. I'm all for pessimistic views of the film. You might think it's a POS. That's fine. But it's still Star Trek.

I take issue with opinions that this is some sort of new deviation from everything that came before it. It isn't.

It's the same old thing in brand new drag. The same as TMP rebooted TOS. TWOK rebooted TMP. TNG rebooted everything. DS9 and VOY and ENT remade it over and over again. The inconsistencies just drive home the fact that this is a big fantasy world that doesn't even take itself too seriously.

I love it, but I'm not gonna go all religious cleric over it.

Which is utterly ironic since the guy revels in what's, for all intents and purposes, "non-canon" data and sources.

Wow, thanks. I totally agree and couldn't have said it better myself. :techman:

Wow this guy is a fucking crybaby
You know, I'm pretty sure I've asked you before not to do that. Discuss the post, don't attack the poster.

Same message. Don't insult the poster.

I was 100% behind this movie until the NuTrek Gestapo kicked my door down, produced a court order which declared my TOS DVDs contraband and made me watch as they smashed them one by one over a bust of Quinto as Spock.

Kinda soured me on the whole thing.

I was wondering if they’re any Trekkies who’ll hate Abrams trek just as much as ardent fans of BSG78 hate nuBSG?

I tend to think it’s best to see the Abramsverse as a parallel universe which prime-universe Spock and Nero traveled to by accident. The normal trek-universe and timeline is still intact, with the post-nemesis/post-countdown federation wondering what happened to Ambassador Spock.

But...but...their uniforms are just so damn stylish...I mean - black leather boots and trenchcoats go with everything...

Silver lining, and all that...

Well, it is a parallel universe. Officially. Canonically.

:D

Don't get me wrong, they had impeccable fashion sense. But when they forced me to tear the heads off of all my TNG action figures something just broke inside of me.

You don't even want to know what they did to my life-size cardboard Sisko.

So you're saying the best way to boycott a product is to buy things associated with it? Hmm that doesn't make much sense.

TMP didn't reboot Star Trek. It updated it. TMP didn't replace anything that went before. TNG didn't replace anything that went before. Yes there are inconsistancies, but it's a story. It wouldn't make much sense if I was telling a story and constantly changed the story as I was telling it.

You should see what they did to me with that Quinto Spock bust.

My childhood still walks funny.

This is essentially supported by the 'Countdown' comic. You can think of the timeline as a 'parallel' timeline that was created by Nero's trip through time. The timeline we all know and love continues, this has just split off from it.

That's what you get for wearing TOS underpants.
