Nostalgia question: what year did you see your first TOS episode?

Ah good ol' WPIX. They syndicated TOS, TNG, and DS9. That's where my love for Trek began. They used to have a TOS or TNG marathon around the holidays too.

I also remember they would make a big deal whenever they aired the original Star Wars trilogy.

Ha! I thought it was I Dream of Jeannie!
Me too :D

I didn't watch on a regular basis until the Fall of 1972, in effect taking a "crash course" of the reruns so I'd know how to roleplay Spock to my recently acquired friend's portrayal of Kirk, you know, neighborhood "cops and robbers" type shtick, but Trek themed.
My cousin and I played TNG a lot, he was "Commander Wyka" (couldn't pronounce Riker) and I was Picard, and we had the Playmates phasers and tricorder :D

That was me, watching Star Trek on WPIX in syndication every night that I could through the '70's.

Did we grow up in the same neighborhood? ;) WPIX was my home for Star Trek as well. Then we got a rotor for our antenna and picked up WTNH in New Haven. They ran it weekdays as well -- uncut with the previews for the next show attached. What a treat that was.

Lapsing into "old fart" mode...

Feh, you kids and your "show (semi) accurate" electronic props...! We had to make do with binocular cases for tricorders, emptied makeup compacts for communicators (I got stuck with the &^%* pink one), and, if we were lucky, Schylling Lunar Launchers for our phasers!

Approximately 1972, in syndication when it was running every day after school. I had been watching Lost in Space and then a neighbor told me I was wasting my time and should try watching Star Trek. Never looked back.

It was totally okay to watch both. :rommie:

Sometime in the late 70s, when TOS was in syndication. I remember seeing TMP in the theater with my family in 1979.

I skipped TWOK during its theatrical run because I found TMP boring & didn't expect the sequel to be any better, but my Trek fandom reignited in 1984 when I saw TSFS with a couple of friends & I really enjoyed it. Then I started watching the show regularly again and caught up with the previous film. I started reading the DC comic, too.

Lucky you with WTNH. WPIX always cut their broadcast episodes, at first with their own, and after 1984 or '85 with the Paramount cuts.

Syndication sometime in the mid 70’s. I don’t remember the exact episode.
Yeah, I wish I could remember the first episode I saw too. I remember talking about "Mudd's Women" with my mother and my sister at the kitchen table shortly after we watched it, but no idea if that was the first one I saw or not.

If I ever get a time machine, that'll be one of the questions I try to answer. :)

VOY and ENT were on the new UPN (WWOR Channel 9).
Yep, I remember they would hype Enterprise on the local news. Like they made a big deal about the Season 2 finale with the Xindi Probe attack, and it wasn't even presented as entertainment news, it was like the lead story. Definitely unethical, totally a sign of the show struggling for ratings and Paramount trying to prop it up.

There must have been a lot of raised eyeballs in the WWOR newsroom that day...

Yeah, it happened at least 2-3 times I know of, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were more instances. I think the other times I saw was one instance where they did a segment on anime (yeah because Enterprise is totally like anime, guys) and one where they were hinting at Archer/T'pol shipping. It was incredible.

Edit: I found this gem on YouTube

Yeah WPIX sliced the series mercilessly and not even with any precision. They would lop off scenes in the middle of dialog. I remember Where No Man Has Gone Before was hit pretty hard.

Start of Act 2: "Captain's Log Stardate 1312.9. Ships position: heading back on impulse power only. Main engines burned out" {SNIP} "Is that Gary Mitchell? The one you used to know?"

Epilogue: "Captain's Log Stardate 1313.8. Add to official losses - Dr. Elizabeth Dehner. Be it noted she gave her life in performance of her duty" {SNIP} Written by Samuel L Peoples.

WTNH was a revelation. We watched I Dream of Jeannie on there too.

I first saw that episode for the first time on June 1,1976 and recall the first cut being between the captain's log until the scene a few seconds earlier than you state, with Mitchell speed-reading on the monitor. The second cut ruined Spock's character arc throughout the episode, in which he first starts having feelings (other than the smug superiority shown in the teaser). But that was the best we had in those days in New York.
