Nostalgia question: what year did you see your first TOS episode?

2023 on netflix
How does it hold up, watching it for the first time today?

The earliest I remember seeing completely was Tholian Web. I saw bits and pieces cause my dad watched them all and I sometimes went over to get a glimpse, but wasn't interested enough to stay. I only started appreciating TOS and TMP in my twenties :D

I don't remember a specific episode but I know I was watching by around 1970-1971.
I do have a distinct memory of being dismayed the first time I ever saw 'Tomorrow is Yesterday' because I initially thought Star Trek had been replaced that day by a movie featuring the Air Force.

Oh hell yes. I remember seeing this my first time in syndication and I thought my favorite show had been pre-empted by some sort of military commercial as well. Fun times.

1975, in syndication on WPIX Chanel 11, although I probably saw a second or two of the show sometime earlier while flipping stations.

hahaha, same exact thing happened to me when I was a kid

Yeah, it was a WTF moment before we called them that...

Oh, dear. How does one delete a duplicate post? :(
Try reporting it as a dupe or maybe replying to the dupe one and in the reply, ask one of the current online staff members to delete it, using the @User name format to get their attention.

edit:apparently, 'username' is an actual user name so removed the linkage

Very very well! I generally enjoy old movies and retro scifi stuff tho. It was my first exposure to Trek apart from watching the 2009 movie a couple years back (...which I didn't enjoy so didn't spark any interest in the wider franchise).

I checked out TOS just out of curiosity tbh, I thought it might be kind of a slog because Reddit and so many other places online will till you to start with TNG. But by around...9 or 10 episodes into season 1 I was already obsessed to the point of buying merch, it's now my favorite TV show of all time :-) good storytelling and characters are timeless!

The first episode I can clearly recall when and where I saw it is The Doomsday Machine, on Friday, April 19, 1968, at my sister’s house, after having returned from the theater with my father and brother-in-law to see 2001: A Space Odyssey. That was quite an evening for a nine-year old, and the association of the two events, plus the fact my sister had a color TV, probably accounts for why it so stands out in my mind. I will never forget feeling awe like I’d never felt before. Nor will I forget my amazement that my brother-in-law was bored stiff by all of it.

Probably at some point in 2001 or 2002 on German television. I don't remember exactly. I do remember my then-boyfriend telling me to watch the show and to "take everything with a grain of salt since it was made in the 60s". (Good advice then, good advice now.)

Like a few others here, mine was "The Doomsday Machine" during the 60s, so I'll inch along a limb and speculate it might have been its premiere, October 20, 1967. I would have been a month shy of turning 5 years old, so my memories are very "fleeting". I only recall the head on approach of the planet killer with Sol Kaplan's heartbeat like score emphasizes the danger. I dove behind my father's Danish modern chair where he was sitting (still own it and its twin), screaming in terror! (I was an easily distraught child.) I'm reasonably certain he picked me up to take me out of the room, probably to bed, and likely muttered something along the lines of, "Welp, you're not gonna' watch any more of that!"

I didn't watch on a regular basis until the Fall of 1972, in effect taking a "crash course" of the reruns so I'd know how to roleplay Spock to my recently acquired friend's portrayal of Kirk, you know, neighborhood "cops and robbers" type shtick, but Trek themed.

Sometime around the turn of the millennium, '99 or '00. A library I went to had "What Are Little Girls Made Of?". Prior to that, I had seen the Star Trek Movies and even the special 'restored' version of the Cage, the one with GR's introduction that shifted from b/w to color and back. Soon after that I shortly had a mail-order subscription and would receive a two-episode VHS collection once a month, but I think I only saw about six-to-eight episodes.

"WNMHGB", Mudd's Women, Space Seed, This Side of Paradise, Tomorrow is Yesterday, City on the Edge of Forever, I, Mudd, and Trouble with Tribbles. I want to say I also saw The Naked Time, but for the life of me I can't remember what episode came with it.

It occurred to me after my initial post that I might have seen the Animated Series before TOS, since it would have been a part of Saturday morning cartoons as a toddler and have been in reruns after that.

Somewhere in 1972. I was 4. I don't remember the episode, only that I loved Star Trek.

While I might say the autumn of 1969 it’s more likely sometime during 1970. I think the first episode I saw was either “Charlie X” or “Balance Of Terror.” I was 11 in 1970.
