nods to previous treks *spoilers*

Re: Should There Have Been Nods To TNG, DS9 & Voy?

I thought the mention of Cardassian Sunrise was a DS9/TNG reference, and Scottys friend looks like a mini-jemhadar. I wouldn't mind seeing more blatant ones though, but only if the oppurtunity presented itself - like if they ate at a restaurant, I'd like to see it called Siskos or them mention "the finest restaurant in New Orleans" for example.

I thought so too, but was wondering - in the original timeline, when was Federation-Cardassian first contact?

Not sure if that counts as a nod to previous Trek: but I thought it was nice to see W. Morgan Sheppard in a Trek-role again; he was after all in TNG, TUC and VOY

no one has mentioned (or that ive noticed) that Spock went back in time to tell Scotty how to do something, which Scotty does himself as part of The Voyage Home.

meanwhile I would not have minded a cameo by T Pol in this movie, its only logical Spock might talk to her at some point, and its very vague as to if she survive the events of the movie as well.

I think the bigger question is, did Valeris survive Vulcan being blown up?

I know Spock says he estimates 10,000 Vulcans are alive but I wonder how he got that estimate. I would think that people on Vulcan had ways to escape. People probably had their own ships and were able to escape in the nick of time, but also how many Vulcans lived elsewhere? I would think Vulcan had a good share of it's own colonies and have well over 10 people. Vulcan's were space travelers before humans were so they would have their own colonies and I would think at least more than 10k lived there. There was enough Vulcans that left to make Romulus and possibly Rigelians(according to Journey to Babel) so it would be logical to think 10k is a really small number.

its true Vulcans are space travellers, but they do seem a reclusive race, however not in a major way (but maybe that is just me)

I would agree that Spock was adding up the numbers of how many Vulcans would normally be off world at any given time.

That said 10k may not be billions or even millions, but its more than enough to restart a species. I think a movie exploring the rebirth of Vulcan civillastion would be very interesting, we already know plenty of Vulcans who could appear in it.

They couldn't be that reclusive if they started at least one and possibly two other races. If they were space travelers for at least 500 years by 2258 I would think they would have more than 10k, probably closer to something like 100k.

yes I fully understand your point, they just seem like a private race, and not one that would go around setting up lots of colonies for no reason.

That said im sure the Vulcans are aware of the logic of having an off world colony, for exactly the events of the movie.

The was an obvious nod that they didn't take.

When Spock-prime is accused of lying I expected an "I exaggerated"

Trying to remember the scene - was Kirk eating the apple in the simulator when he said he didn't believe in the no-win scenario? (which would of tied directly to the TWOK scene).

The worm Nero uses to force Pike tell him what he wants to know, is the same worm Kahn uses in "Star Trek II"
Why do so many people think this? Nero calls them Centaurian Slugs whereas Khan used Ceti Eels. The Centaurian Slug used the mouth to get to the brain; the Ceti Eel went through the ear. And they didn't even look the same!

Granted, it's an homage, but it's hardly the same animal.
Am I the only one who thought the Centaurian Slug looked like the aliens from TNG's Conspiracy Theory(sic)?

Yes, he was in the KM simulator eating an apple.

How old is Valeris? Was she even born yet if Spock is under 30?

Incidently, ENT fans should probbaly keep in mind that it was quite possible that T'Pol was killed on Vulcan ;)

Hell, it goes deeper than that ... more than likely, every Vulcan we've ever met besides Spock and Sarek is gone. No T'Pau, T'Pol, T'Pring, or T'Lar. Tuvok's parents are dead, as are Dr. Selar's grandparents. That whole DS9 baseball team. Sybok. Gone.

Even that little smiley dude ... :vulcan: ... he's probably dead, too.
So if Tuvok's parents are dead that means Tuvok himself won't be born? That means no Voyager????

Finally something good to come out of the new timline....
IIRC, Tuvok was not born on Vulcan but on another planet which was a Vulcan colony world so his parents may have not have been living on Vulcan when it was destroyed.

it did sorta look like them though from the description not the same.

on vulcan refugees..
orci has said spock's estimate only applies to those who escaped from vulcan.
it dosnt account for those living off planet.

i would like to know if pjemm had been rebuilt.

and i dont know if it has been mentioned but i swear scotty calls another crewman gary toward the end.

considering we know sometimes crew are rotated around from engineering to bridge i wonder if that could have been gary mitchell.

not sure about how old she is, but im sure she would be born, but yeah she would be too young to do any real storyline with

I thought the parachute thing had NCC-1701-E on the back of them. It was on screen for a split second, but I swear one of either Kirk's or Sulu's had it on their back.
