No ST12 in June 2012 please!

I can't see ST12 make the deadline anyway without any sacrifice on quality/amount of CGI. On the other hand only guys like Peter Jackson and James Cameron have luxury to make CGI masterpieces these days. And others? If artists work like chinease plant workers on the project, then it becomes another made in china with just enough quality to make it watchable, with no true vision or quality.

A completely wrong statement. Completely wrong. Yes, Jackson and Cameron have had movies with incredible CGI, but that doesn't mean that other films have been able to produce excellent CG work, District 9 and even Star Trek 11 are recent examples. Despite the fact that the script isn't done, I'm sure there is a division at ILM at this very moment going through the pre-production process and preparing for when it does hit.

There is a problem in the VFX industry about films having way too compressed post production times, but I don't understand what everyone is freaking out about this release date. They have over a year, and many assets of the film are already built and created (the bridge and CG model of the Enterprise, etc.) Once that script is done its going to hit the ground running. One about Abrams I've noticed is that he isn't going to release something that is substandard, quality. He is very involved with all aspects of his movies.

I don't think the director has much influence on the quality of the VFX. He goes "I want this and that." and the VFX company delivers. Or not.

I just meant that perhaps only those 2 get enthrusted with enough time and money by studios to make CGI masterpieces. Others seem to be under huge pressure from bookkepers and schedules.

If it releases in late June 2012... it'll have been 38 months since the original film was released. Wait too much longer and they may lose any momentum generated from the original film.

I disagree, sometimes a longer wait is better, as you make your audiance want it more.

I don't think it should be delayed any longer. I say that only because I'm impatient and I want it now.

They had been shooting TF3 since June 2010, and I compare these 2, because of the amount of effects/CGI/ideas reused and the scale of technical challenges. Maybe TF sereis has got some more complex cgi scenes, but ST probably requires much more effort eith props, prosthetics, etc(sorry, bad english/lazyness to check). It starts to look to me, that Paramount didn't give trek writers enough support. Remember, you can't compress something forever. My bet is November 2012, ILM and Weta will be too busy next spring to make that compressed shedulle work.

I was hoping the next movie would be a Wrath of Khan remake since they are starting over, why not do the best ones first?

They did one. It was called ST 2009. Nero instead of Khan. Abrams said he would NOT be doing a "Wrath Of Khan" remake, thank God.

Same here.

I hate to wait. Waiting for LotR, STXI, The Star Wars Prequels (and oh how I waited for them...), now The Hobbit and The Dark Tower....

Summer 2012 cannot come soon enough.

And another thank the Generic Omnipotent Dude here for not making another Khan film. I never got the love for the first one, as Khan is retarded (Nero is, too, but he at least wasn't supposed to be of "higher intellect"). I can only handle so many retarded villains and still like the film.

Batman 3 will be in post production when ST12 starts shooting. Does any of you really believe in quality ST movie in June 2012?

Why not?

A film years and years in the making could suck just as easily as one made on a truncated schedule. Whatever happens, happens.

Can't wait for dark man rises. I hope Durant will return, it's not the same without him.

Yesterday we reported that Star Trek producer (and possible director) JJ Abrams had confirmed that the sequel script is still not complete. News of the unfinished script over the last couple of months has spawned much talk and speculation with Trek fans. For example, in the TrekMovie.com comments section for yesterday’s article, community member "Capt Crash" offered a number of possible scenarios as to why the Star Trek sequel script is still not finished (such as first draft being rejected for various reasons). Today sequel co-writer/producer Roberto Orci rejected the list of speculations and made it clear that work was progressing on the Star Trek sequel, saying:

"Orci: [to Capt. Crash] None of the above. Just been waiting for JJ to be free to really decide if he likes the story and hear his suggestions before we finish the script. Once he says go, we’ll have it in no time. Meanwhile, our outline is detailed enough (70+ pages!) to do some prep :)"

But how can any prep be done if they don't know whether Abrams likes the story or not?

Abrams likes the story and has said so a number of times.

Orci uses "story" and "script" interchangably here. Abrams is waiting on a final script to decide whether to direct the movie or not (yeah, right). Abrams has said positive things about the story every time he's asked. Your assignment is to use Google and get back to us on what you learn.

Next.
